Klout,

See this post. You really need to demo SN, SN/FC2x, SN/HC2 and now SN/FCXS.

HC2 is a must-have for SN. FC2x is not recommendable IMHO. But try and listen for yourself.

Adding up the HiCap to SuperNait is a must when your budget does allow. I did that and never regret.

Joseph.

I can't really see the point of upgrading the SuperNait.

I would have thought that if one wants to go down upgrade paths with Naim kit, then separates is the way to start......

Why not swap your SuperNait for a 202/200 and then add a HiCap or Supercap? That would seem more logical to me.

Enjoy your music,

Engelbert

It makes much sense of upgrading a SN with a HC.Because the SN benefits in terms of depth and stage from the HC, all comes more 3dimensional.
I for myself would never swap my SN for 202/200 because i dont like the sound of this combi very much, its too analytic for me, it didnt have the fattness of the SN.

Add a HiCap2 (or a Supercap2) to 202/200 and it'll be fat to the point of a rich and desirable plumpness - in a way that only separates can.

I have found that 202/200 is vastly superior to SuperNait - which is not to imply there is anything wrong with Supernait. What it means is that you pay more for 202/200 and you get more, which is logical.

Enjoy your music,

Engelbert

I'm also flirting with the thought adding an Hicap to the SN. thanks for the link, will look into it.

ps I hope this topic doesn't end up in another supernait vs separates discussion.

Michel-

If you are going to try to use a pair of Avalon's, adding a Hi-Cap for your S/N will be a very useful and synergistic upgrade, as it will open out the sound stage quite nicely, as well as lowering the noise floor, increasing dynamic tracking, and enhance the fundamental musicality of the S/N. The Supercap will take this even farther, but may not make as much sense depending on your long term system goals.

Best,

Bruce

Well first off, brand new a 202/200/NAPSC/HC will run you $2000 more than a new SN/HC.

Given that the SN is used, Klout could only expect to fetch, what $3000? Now he would be dropping a net $3500 to get to the 202/200/NAPSC/HC.

I would trade my olive (non-equal) equivalent of the 202/200 (102/180) for a SN in a heartbeat. The SN was the first piece of Naim kit I really listened to, and it took my head off. So good.

Lastly with the SN the upgrade path still remains. You can biamp, go to a supercap, upgrade the pre, concentrate on source upgrades, or just spend the money on the point of all this is the first place, more MUSIC!!

Add the Hicap and buy some new CDs.

On a side note.... But related... Can you put two HCs on a SN as you can a 282?

Hi PCStockton,

My comment were made in the light of getting better sound - rather than pricing considerations alone.

But, if SuperNait depreciates at the rate you suggest, then I suppose 202/200 might do similar?? Thus, an option wold be to trade SuperNait on a used 202/200. Upgrade paths from then on make much more sense........ Separates are less constrained than integrated when it comes to upgrades. Plus, most serious listeners seem to think that separates have an inherent sonic advantage.

Enjoy your music,

Engelbert

i would imagine having sensitive speakers may make the hicap less effective.

Why would you upgrade a Supernait?.

Why would you meddle with perfection?

Seems to me that some people are more interested in collecting boxes than enjoying music................

Because there are such products as 500 and 552.

Some people seem to think they sound even better than Supernait.......

Enjoy your music,

Engelbert
