Hi,

I'm putting together a sub £100 system together for a friend who wants to use their laptop as a source. I bought a pair of JPW Mini Monitors of eBay for £19 and am going to test them on the end of the following:

CDX2
HiLine
202+HiCap
200

Anybody care to predict what's going to happen!!??

That averages out at £20 per piece of equipment,

Just the speakers - Obviously the Naim stuff is mine!!

I'm wondering how it's going to sound. Wasn't expecting it to be much good but it should be interesting to see how they perform with a decent input........ Not that I'll be thinking of trading down!

Yes - your friend will likely be wondering 2 things:

1) Why you still choose to listen to CD's
2) Why on earth you spent all that money on buying gear to play them

I used JPL mini-monitors with a nait 3 and marantz cd 63 se some 10 years ago. A good little speaker as I remember. Could go very loud without distortion.

Well they're listening on some horrible built in tinny laptop speakers at the moment. This of course could not be allowed to continue so I told them I could make a slight improvement for peanuts......

So for £64 they are now the owners of:
Denon PMA-255UK amp (£45)
JPW Mini Monitors (£19)

I've treated them to QED interconnects and speaker cable.....

I only hope I'm not going to reach the same conclusion you've just suggested!!! Winker

Who knows, they could be a future Naim owner one day............ I imagine this is exactly how drug dealers operate!! :-)

I still miss my JPW Gold Monitors (posher minis).

They were ace - not as deep bass-wise as most of my other speakers I've had, but I miss them!
