I'm noticing an odd thing when looking at my latest holiday photos on the computer. I'd not used this newish PC with Vista much for viewing pics before this.

The pics look crisp and punchy when viewed as single images but when the 'slidshow' button is used to present them the quality seems to dip. Slideshow seems to reset the monitor resolution (or something) as when it is used the screen does black out and appear to reset.

Any idea what is going on, and more particularly how I can fix it? Is this a matter of setting the monitor profile or a Vista setting?

If you're using PhotoGallery, the 'static' images are, as you will have noticed, rescaled for the slide show.

I've fiddled around with a tape measure and I think the scaling is not quite the same for the two axes, and this would reduce the perceived resolution of the slideshow renderings.

I'm not sure this is the issue. I can view a single image and zoom in beyond full-screen size and still get more punch than when viewing the slide show. They are softer and have less contrast. I'm sure the screen does some sort of reset (rather as it does when playing a video game) at the start of the slideshow.

If you have it use Lightroom for slideshows.

Very user friendly and excellent quality. No deterioration from the initial image and a nice default blend feature

The other solution - don't use Windows for slideshows.
Try faststone. Does a lot besides. Free.
