Hi, I have had this film recommended to me and I was curious if any of you had watched it?

Many thanks,

Jon

Certainly worth seeing ... even if the film is not quite as good as its reputation, IMHO.

Somewhat dated but that isn't a problem if you accept the time period in which it was made; good to see a number of well-known actors (you'll never look on Paul Barber - Denzil from Only Fools And Horses - the same!) and it's an engrossing 2 hours. Watch out for a young Pierce Brosnan.

Pretty violent at times ... especially the bottle scene!

Brilliant film - Bob Hoskins' finest IMO.

What's a long good Friday like ?

Well, pretty good, when they come along. I'll normally get up a bit later, say 8-9am, instead of the usual 5.30-6am. Leisurely first hour or so, potter around the apartment, surf the net - before I remember to give the Macs a break...Polish off a jug of coffee. Sometimes, for a change, will wander down the soi and go to a cafe, sit and read a paper, watch the locals go by etc....Then, if feeling suitably energetic, may hop on the monorail the couple of stops into the city centre and go for a wander around one of the main shopping malls - there's a couple of 1/2 decent HiFi stores, though no Naim of course....Will take in the best book-store, normally wander out with a couple of new photo books if the distributors have reached this far and I don't already have them.....As 1-2pm approaches, I'm getting thirsty, time for a glass....Will normally move onto one of my few preferred bars (they are all crap here) and have an over-priced glass of white - or three......Then may go for a bit more of a wander, another bookstore, or may not, and just sit still......May make or take a few phone calls, no doubt work, but try not to engage brain.....As early evening approaches, choices are to be made - Head back home, loud music, stir up some pasta along with a bottle of white and then perhaps settle in with a DVD OR, stay out, head over to a more happening place, meet some friends, talk rubbish and end up in a jazz bar at 2am OR, much the same as previous but swing by an exhibition opening or something, pick up a load of journo/photog friends and end up at 2am eating Chicken-n-Rice at a street stall.....Regardless of all possible scenarios, Saturday morning starts with a thick head....

The 'long' part of a good Friday comes with jumping in a car and being driven down to a mainland beach here, or, jumping in a cab, destination airport and a flight to an island, or if bored, Bali (or if in shopping mood, Singapore)...Return on Tuesday.

THAT, is a long good Friday...! Big Grin
