Hello everyone!
Hopefully somebody can help me with a problem I recently have with my Naimuniti (I'm otherwise absolutely pleased with)!
Streaming webradio (any station) the uniti seems to loose connection in unregular intervals. The dropouts last from a few seconds till some minutes.
Using different webradios (Squeezebox, etc.) this problem never appears, so I think it's the uniti having a problem. Could this be a question of settings?
Any idea why this can be?
Thankfully, drfthomas

If the Internet radio works for you on other devices then the drop outs are probably not related to your Internet connection.

Is your Uniti connected wirelessly? If so, you might be seeing wireless problems.

Is your wireless antennae connected on the back of the Uniti?
Do you experience the same drop outs when using the UPNP streaming? If so, you may want to look at extending/boosting your wireless network, reducing interference (DECT phones, microwaves, other wireless devices) or, if all these fail, running a CAT5/6 cable.

Let us know how you get on.

using a cat5 cable with my uniti and hasn't been any dropouts, if you are using wireless check the router and try a different channel (if I remember correctly channels 1, 6 and 11 do not have overlap)

Thank You for Your quick replies. Streaming via upnp using the same router wirelessly never causes any problems so I ruled that as problem out. Didn't try the cable yet, but actually I don't want to use a cable in the longrun. I will try the cable nevertheless, just to know wether it works.
How can I see/change the channel to prevent overlapping?
Thank You, drfthomas

Hmmm. If you don't experience problems with UPNP streaming then I suspect that your wireless is not the issue here.

When you test between different devices do you know for sure that you are listening to exactly the same stream and not just the same station? For example, BBC radio stations are available at differing bandwidths and over differing protocols and you will just get whatever Naim's Vtuner site uses (naim.vtuner.com). It is possible that the Uniti is accessing a station by a different stream?

That said, if you are seeing this on every station you try it may actually be an issue with your Uniti. While it can't really be regarded as a portable radio(!), could you try your Uniti at a friends house (or your dealer) over a different connection to see if this behaves differently? If you still the problem over a different connection then I think you definitely need to have your dealer look at this.

I am seeing a similar problem. Connected via ethernet. Most of the time I am connecting to Radio Paradise 128 AAC or 192 MP3 streams. The connection will just drop. The drop happens at arbitrary times into the stream and then will reconnect at some arbitrary time - but it is minutes (usually over 5.)

Not problems with UPnP streaming or streaming off the network by other devices. I have tried a Squeezebox and an AppleTV on the same network port. In fact I can play these same streams from the AppleTV and go digitally into the Uniti with no problems.

Very strange. Other than this anomaly it is a great piece of kit.

I tried the Cat5 cable this afternoon, no difference! I think I will call my local dealer next week...

I'll check with mine as well. I was doing some more in-depth testing over the weekend and had the unit disconnect on a 64kbps stream. Then it reconnected 14 mins later.

Hi,

We have noticed that in certain circumstances Uniti can drop audio from internet radio. This may be due to a combination of local network/remote server connection issues.

The poor weather may have also increased the likelyhood of problems, possibily caused by more people working from home and hence intenet quality/speed is currently reduced.

We have been looking at trying to compensate for these problems and will issue an update soon (along with 24/96 streaming playback as soon as beta testing is finished).

We apologise and will issue more information and an update as soon as we can.

Just recently my Uniti kept loosing its uPnP connection with my NAS (Mediatomb). I looked at the buffer and noticed that it was almost empty. The level varied between 1 and 3. I powered the Unit off and on. The buffer then showed and remained at 10. I normally leave the Uniti on all the time.

Michael,
I encounter similar problem with Uniti and Synology NAS (seethis thread). Could you give me more details about your harware and software configuration. I try to collect information about this streaming issue.
Regards.

Just thought I'd bump this thread up as I'm a new Uniti owner and have experienced similar problems when listening to Radio Paradise wirelessly. The cut-outs seem on the whole to be only a few seconds, and I can go an hour or two (like this evening) with no cut-outs , and then it starts occuring every 10/15 mins.

Any news from the boffins yet?

Well I presume I'm on the latest as the Uniti only arrived with my dealer from Naim last week, so it's definitely a February unit.

While it should be 2.0 in that case, it is worth a check in the interface just to be sure it is the latest software.
