Now a new problem!!! Constant dropping out of the spotlight stream from the MuSo and ND5XS when connected from Spotify app. If I just AirPlay from me iDevice the I get constant stream of music on the MuSo but that obviously won't work for the ND5. Naim-via- Spotify does seem to be flea-ridden!

Are you wireless or wired? If wireless and your router has QOS feature, you could try giving the Naim units top priority. This worked for me on my previous router (Netgear R7000), my Mu-so is some distance away in the Garden. Since upgrading to a R7500 this is no longer necessary.

I don't know about Muso or Spotify but my ND5-XS, my Unitilite and my UnitiCute 2 sometimes show an error like this when trying to connect to iRadio or to my Unitiserve. Rebooting the relevant streamer always fixes it. You probably tried already but if not, try rebooting them. David

JohnW, you could maybe contact Naim Support directly? This is the best route if you have an issue as the Naim guys don't always read the forum. I'm sure ther is a simple explanation. Good luck!

I had this problem last week on my Muso, solved by doing a reset on the Muso, pin hole on side of the unit. Also had the same issue on my NDS, again resetting solved it. Gerry

I believe that there is currently beta firmware that addresses this issue, probably not far away from official release. Running it in wireless mode would be a temporary fix for this until the new firmware is released, or you could sign up for the beta if you want.

No, apply the inverse of the loudness function, then for normal listening turn the loudness on and the result will be an even response.

Re: Mu-so, problem using Airplay

Hi Patrik, I had a similar problem which turned out to be modem related. I was using a virgin media superhub. I downloaded an app called network analyser and that showed that the bonjour communication was being lost I think on my muso. Ask this question in the streaming forum and particularly to Phil Harris in Naim support as he was particularly helpful in solving this for me. I had to purchase a new modem and run my superhub as internet feed only as the superhub was dropping some data...

Re: Mu-so problem using Airplay

No it varies (I think). Quite often though the airplay connection (and the Connection to the app) is lost the next morning. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes not... If I re-run the installation procedure (and restart the wifi-router) the airplay works again, at least for a while... Patrik

Patrik, The reason why I asked is that my MU-SO was losing connectivity every day and then I realised it was the same time every day. I went into my BT Home Hub: Advance settings/IP Addresses/DHCP Server and changed the lease time from 1 day to the max. of 21 days. Problem solved. I suspect that that is not your problem but it might help somebody out there. Paul

What router / wireless access point are you using, Patrik? This will most likely be a networking issue rather than a Muso one. Are you using the muso wired or wireless? David

DSP in ND Streamers?

Noticed this from Roy George in the Connect article about Mu-so Qb. Does anyone know what this means in an ND context please? "when the finished tune is agreed, it can then be uploaded into the product in a similar way that Naim’s ND- and Uniti products can have their DSP audio tuning adjusted as part of firmware upgrade – ‘only rather faster’ , says George."

Poor Album Artwork with Mu-So App

Simon Clifford-Smith ·
I have recently bought a Naim Mu-So and I am exceedingly pleased with the audio quality, however, I think there must be a problem with the App, as the Album Artwork is either missing (Grey Folders) or very pixelated when streaming from my WD My Cloud 2TB network drive. The Album artwork is either "JPEG" or "PNG" and is in the same folder as the music files. Any help  or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Simon

Mu-so Qb 48kHZ

Good evening, dear Naim fellows. I might buy a Mus-so Qb next week. My music is flac only, 90% red book, 9% 24bit/96kHz and 1% 24bit/192kHz (rough estimation). Since I am using an Auralic Aries in my main system, I stream (wirelessly) all files directly from a network share. What kind of infrastructure do I need for running a Qb? Will a network share not be enough? If I need to install some kind of UPnP-Server, do I need to configure it to downsample the high-res files? I wonder, why Naim...

I use mine as a sound bar via an RCA to Mini plug. My 2006 Sony XBR TV is not smart. You can rip your CD's using ALAC into iTunes, then sync with your iPad using the cable that comes with it. I use AIFF instead and think it sounds better than ALAC. You can always rip into AIFF and downsample into ALAC to save space on your iPad. It does not work going from ALAC to AIFF.

Thanks. So I found an old Mac w a CD player so I am ripping down a CD now in AIFF as you suggested. Then how do I get the files from my Mac laptop to Itunes or to my Ipad? Keeping in mind this is an old laptop not tricked out with Airdrop or anything fancy to share files across the network….Thx Time for a new tv bud

You plug in the iPad with the iPad cable into the Mac USB. iTunes will open and you can drag your files from the library and drop them on the iPad icon in iTunes.

I have a MuSo and use its Toslink input for my TV. I am pretty sure it would work with your Mac, too. If you need multiple digital inputs, you might benefit from a DAC into the single MuSo Toslink input. The MuSo is purpose built and limited. That is a feature for my application. It might be a defect for yours. Audition one and see what you think. We love ours. We also have a UnitiQute which might be a better fit for what you need if you have or want to buy speakers.

Thanks for the response Skip, I only use the Mu-so for music, and it's the primary source in our home (A UnitiQute2 & a pair of Guru's or LS50's are a distant dream). Generally it's music streamed from the Mac via AirPlay, or from Tidal (Premium HiFi), either directly from the App, or via the naim App. I guess my question is, if I added an asynchronous DAC, and wired the connection from iOS & OS X, would the gain in music quality be worth the expense? As mentioned above, a system...

A rather strange suggestion, while not meaning it's wrong. You might also first consider exploring the improvement on nas and Ethernet cables. The dac improvements might not shine through. But as with all these things - one needs to hear before getting to conclusions ....

Re: Mu-so & DAC. Any value?

Another factor is what format are you using for streaming the music? If you are using MP3 then you should try some FLAC files (you will notice the difference). Also, a wired Ethernet connection will also give a noticeable improvement.

Thanks for the suggestions. How would wiring the Mu-so directly to the router via ethernet provide better sound quality? Apologies for my ignorance. PeterJ - music is from various formats, but lot's of FLAC and WAV in there too.
