Using Naim Uniti as Source in a 150/112 system

tmurley ·
I have an older NAP150/112 amp preamp combo with a flat cap and CD5. I recently purchased as used uniti 1 to use at home while the equipment is serviced. I have the following questions. Can I use the Uniti as a source component to the 150/112 system. That is, can I use the preamp out from the Uniti to go into the 112, using the Uniti CD player, streamer or Internet radio, depending what is selected on the Uniti, as the source for the old system. Assuming that I can do the above, can I run...

Upgrade Path for simple Naim System

George White ·
OK, I am new here but I am looking for advice. I want to progress from my current configuration where I listen to vinyl almost exclusively. I feel that I have the right system for my listening (room) situation, which is combined with our living room where we entertain guests and sometimes have non-audiophiles in to listen to old and new vinyl tracks. I am not very interested in "trading up" to more power and bigger speakers  because I am happy with what I have in the room size including...

Hello. I need an advice my hi fi system consists of: Naim Nait 5si , Marantz SA8005 Sub Rel T5 cable wireworld oasis rca solstice for speakers. I would change the speakers B&W 685s2 with the dynaudio because I read that sounds more hifi and an excellent coupled with naim. do you think the Dynaudio Excite x18 or x14 are a good match with naim nait 5si. Or else Dynaudio Emit M20? the music I listen to is mostly rock and country, my favorites are Dire Straits, Pink floyd, David Bowie, guns...

Hi LILYFY Back shopping again? So soon? I assume the speakers are still SBL rather than DBL? Re going wonky active on SBLs with a 250 & 180, in all seriousness, why not pop in the 250 (once serviced) and enjoy it for a while. After 11 years, the 250 will really benefit from the service. Step 2: Buy lots of vinyl & CDs - minimum 100 new albums to really enjoy a new system that is even better than the one that you have today. Then, if you do anything at all, why not have the XPS2 &...

Re: 180 to 250 amongst other things

SBL's is what I meant to say - now changed in the original post to avoid confusing others not to make Lord Emsworth and Foot tapper look silly, honest! Lord E, they are still sounding very fine, five years in Thanks for the comments, FT - the 250 is something I have had in mind for a long term, to balance up the amplification. Don't go getting the idea that I chop and change a lot - the 102 lasted just over 12 years and the 180 12.5 years so far... the 52 arrived just under 2 years after I...

250 staying. Will sort service in the next few weeks. And then contemplate not buying anything else for a long time... Have had a change of heart on spending. It already sounds fab (jolly well ought to i suppose being close to top of the line pre-500 series system) so there seems to be little point in doing anything else. At least until I feel up to splashing out on streaming when I would like to get NDS but will listen to NDX and see how it goes The TomTom day demonstrated that there are...

Hi LILYFY I moved recently from a 72/HiCap/180 to a 52/Supercap/250 and I am still coming to terms with the vast improvement in SQ. I bought my 52/Supercap/250 and promptly sent them straight to Naim for a service without setting them up and listening to them. I keep telling everyone how stunning it is. In fact I am becoming a bit of a bore! As to the source, I have been dithering about streaming and was about to take the plunge with a Uniserve-ssd/nDac and NDX but after much deliberation...

Steve I'd grab a CDS2 without hesitation. I got mine about 18 months ago to replace a CD5x. It is a wonderful thing and you can get them for a very good price as the sheep sell them to buy streamers. I use mine with an 82/180, so a 52/250 will be even better!

Jay…. Hopefully Guy or Tog will look in and will be able help you better than I can, as I don’t use Vortexbox. As I understand, it operates similar to a NAS but with more/better features. I suspect therefore it may be better connecting it to the network and then to the Hi-Fi. If you have to use wireless, I believe that the recommendation is to use only one component connected that way. Sorry can’t be more helpful. Peter

Jay, I just picked up an unitiserve to mate with my uniti/nap200 setup. You are right, it is expensive but you get a simple solution to streaming music. I looked at Linn and you have to have a computer on at all times. I don't know about you but sometimes I don't want to open up my laptop to listen to music. I just want to grab my iPhone or iPad ,pick an album and kick back. With Linn you have to install third party software to manage your music. I can do that but I want things simple. My...

So far I used B&W 685, but was not satisfied with treble, which only "woke up" when volume was at least at 11.00. 2 days ago I tested B&W CM1, Wharfedale Denton, Sonus Faber Liuto and JBL Studio 530. The best result I got with JBL, very good middle and high frequency, bass very tighth and well controlled. So I bought JBL and sold B&W 685. JBL finally produced very good if not excellent audiophille loudspeaker, very good match to Naim.

Ive seen two really good reviews of those JBLs, they sound the kind of interesting product a few people were bemoaning a lack of nowadays. Bookshelf size with horn units for the treble and a single bass unit. 'Very open and fast' sounding. In reality quite hard to hear in the UK, they seem direct sell only or are there any Naim/JBL dealers out there? Cheers John

Frank had a good post about this: Naim/Kudos X2 go well together. Kudos has been totally kicking Neat's butt lately. Rega RS5s are leaner, also very good, if you want a sound that's lean. If you room is sparsely furnished, and 'bright' go with Harbeths. Totem Arros are another good choice.
