Atom - DELAYED AGAIN?!?!

No lives will be lost if the Atom ships a month or two later - or even if Naim decides to recall that line.
Thence the 'only Hifi'.

If you don't want to be in line, just ask for your money back is my point - not sure why we're talking about contracts and such.

Because there was some debate about who had the money from paid for units and the conversation evolved from that.

Not sure that the 'only HiFi' phrase that keeps on appearing is relevant. Surely in the scheme of things that mantra could be rolled out everytime someone has a Tidal dropout, hard drive failure or compare Chord to Nalm. Sure in the scheme of things it's not the end of the world but it would be a uninteresting, short lived forum.

The longer this discussion takes, the more I feel the urge to buy one to show my loyalty to a brand which has captivated me in a few seconds by opening a cd door of a Uniti 2 which hardly can be a reason to spend silly money for any of the hifi purists on this most appreciated forum.

Show to whom? You can better serve the company you feel loyal to by being critical and patient rather than by being indulgent and impulsive.

I do not know what you mean by "hifi purists" but I guess that many contributors to this forum would indeed see very good reasons for spending their money on a Uniti2. I certainly do so and I would have no reservations buying a Uniti2 now. I would know what I buy. This is something that I could not claim if I would order one of the new Uniti devices.

This brings us back to the issues discussed in this thread. My view is that, by all troubles with delays, price increases, etc., we should not forget that what actually matters at the end of the day is not the price of a device or the time it takes to be released but its value. If we are satisfied with what we have bought, we will associate to it a high value. The other way round if we feel disappointed, of course.

Thus, if we do not particularly enjoy returning units or reselling them on the second hand market, it is crucial not to order devices that we do not fully trust to meet our expectations. By contrast, if we feel very confident of our choices, it does not really matter if a unit comes a bit later or if it costs a bit more. A little bit, I mean.

I'm not sure I agree with the bit I've bolded. For me, my wish for a new Uniti is as a second system, I have the ability to listen to music in high quality on my main system, albeit with less stunning views from the window. If I were looking to have my only high end system, then lack of access to music in high quality would seem to me to decrease the utility, that's a chunk of my listening life I will never  get back, so would significantly impact my view of the value.

Airplay 2 is due to arrive as part of iOS11 in the Autumn, so I would hope Naim aren't waiting for that to arrive before they can release their new products!

I have an idea....let's start that rumour......the proverbial will fly??

Saying that...I actually wouldn't be surprised!!

It depends ... I'm only guessing here ... but if Apple want a range of products available which are compatible with AirPlay 2 by the official release of iOS11 in the Autumn, then they are going to want devices being released now.  It was only being held back by the announcement.

As I say, only guessing ...

For the purpose of clarity, the announcement from Apple yesterday has had no impact or correlation to the New Uniti range development timing and delivery. Airplay 2 is a separate feature for update at a later point in line with Apple release.

Thanks Trevor

Any news on how it is all going?

Well I hope it does launch on time and with no problems. However, the resolution of core problems has been slow, Naim have underestimated their staffing level for field concerns in my opinion. So, if Atom, Nova and then Star have field problems, it does not bear thinking about......

Am I losing it or was there a thread in the Featured Topics section of this Forum called something like New Uniti Progress which was last occasionally updated - last post being May 31st?

Just went to check it and it seems to have disappeared.

Edit: just found it in the Music Room featured topics - could have sworn it was here on Streaming Audio - surely a more appropriate place?

Yup....seems to have vamooshed!!?

Richard (Dane), can you give us some clarity please around the Atom. Is there an update please? The dealers that I have spoken to (3 in the Midlands), are suggesting end of July to Mid August now, is there any substance in that?

Best

If this is true....I'm officially giving up??

I spoke to my dealet earlier inthe week when they rang to say my PLLs had arrived. They'd had their rep in last week and had confirmation that the Atom and Nova were coming soon, they were prepared to offer me a date for an Atom demo earlier than the slot I currently have booked in, which is 17th July.

I have no idea Lord Hillier, I'm not based at the factory and not privy to factory delivery schedules with their various dealers.  Did the dealers quote that estimated delivery for an order placed today?  You best course of action is to keep in close contact with the dealer with whom you placed your order. Naim will no doubt post here on the applicable thread as soon as units begin to ship out.

It is. 2 of them sited the Apple Play 2 element, the other licensing delays. I honestly don't know what to think of it all now. Hoping Naim can clarify.

My dealer, who I've has an order on with since the early new year, he's an independent and two national (well various branches), all the same. "Unlikely to get allocation of orders placed now".

Lord Hillier, Trevor Wilson responded on the Airplay 2 question yesterday, it's very clear, and it doesn't get more official than that.
