Blimey, the 272 is even better than I thought it was...

Try using water based paint rather than oil based. It will reduce the duration of work significantly. Farrow & Ball  water based paint (eggshell) is of excellent quality and the finish is as good as the old oil based equivalent.

Is that the acrylic stuff? I've used that in past where I've needed very quick drying times (a dog in the house) but have always felt the finish disappointing compared to oil-based under-coat and gloss.

Ah, I’ve bought a vapour pot, used by all painters it seems. You just stick the brush in and get it out again the next day. You never need to clean them, it’s great. I might investigate the F&B though, thanks for the tip. I bet they don’t do boring brilliant white though. We always use F&B on the walls.

I’ve been listening to music all day on the new and improved system, while painting upstairs, other than when out for the daily constitutional and obligatory nap. Even using the old fashioned multiroom (turn it up and open the doors in need of paint) it’s sounding wonderful. But there are only so many ways to say that the 272/555/300 is a lot better than the 272/XPS/250 that preceded it.

Actually, I was reflecting while walking beside the sea in the sunshine earlier, how it’s just so incredibly musical, like I found the 552/300 setup to be, back in the day. I always said about that system that it lets the music flood out - the hifi equivalent of a Tetley tea bag, in a way that the 252/300 just didn’t. Well, the 272 setup does exactly the same. I play music and it’s just there in the room, totally natural and unignorable. I never thought I’d hear such a sound in my house again, but through a strange and unwanted twist of fate, I’ve got it back. And it’s fantastic.

See - hifi stuff.

As long as we're so far off topic we can't even see it from here I have to say as a Yank I've always admired how on your Brit TV shows and movies just how wonderful the painted doors, window and baseboard trims, etc. look; the way such items should look, IMO, and very seldom do here in the States.

But I thought it was meant to be the PG Tips pyramid bags which let the flavour flood out owing to the space in the bag.

See - tea stuff.

Do you mean a Brush Mate? They are brilliant, I once forgot that I'd left a brush in mine, and when I discovered it a few months later, it was perfectly OK. You won't need one for F&B paint, though, as it is all water based.

No, it was Tetley, with the 2,000 perforations in every bag, which let the flavour flood out.

That’s it, the Brush Mate. As you say, they are brilliant.

Time for the Padded Cell I think. This thread has run its course, there’s a limit to how many times we need telling just how good the 272/555/300 combo is.

Tim, I’m not sure why you are so keen to have this moved to the Padded Cell. Surely that’s for the Moderator to decide. If you don’t like the thread, don’t read it. And I did say above that there are only so many ways to enthuse about the black boxes and that my ability to say it has run its course. I’ll endeavour to arrange the Naim trip then perhaps leave this thread to wither in the vine. I’ve rather enjoyed it though.

Thank you Timmo1341 and I wholeheartedly agree,  apparently it is even comparable to both a 552 and a Tetley tea bag now.

Those who have not died of boredom may recall mention of a get together at Naim in the new year. I’ve mailed Trevor and he has asked what I’d be looking for. My idea is for a bit of social time, either at Naim or the pub, and time to discuss future directions - something a bit different to the usual factory tour. And a listen of course.

A number of you expressed an interest and I think those were:

Nigel B, Gazza, Huge, Lindsay, Simon B, Mike B

With me that’s seven, so a few more could be added I’m sure: the maximum for a visit is 12 I believe.

If anyone is interested and if there are any ideas as to what you’d like to do while there, please add your interest and ideas here, and I’ll get back to Trevor over the weekend. I’m sure someone at Naim could then sort out a date. I was thinking late January or early February.

Thanks.

Yes, please - I thought I expressed interest earlier.

No thanks I would rather stick pins in my eyes.

This thread has saved me from 'distressing' my new Burndies and subsequently blowing myself up from a loose fitting connections.

Well worth the read!

I have never understood why people complain about threads. It is not as if there is a shortage of other threads to read. Personally I quite like threads with twists and turns, occasionally leading to the bizarre.

Simply because it no longer has relevance to a Hi-Fi Corner thread. I can appreciate it’s diverse ramblings may be of interest / amusement to some, but in a place better suited to discussion of decorating / jollies etc.

Can’t be having one rule for some and one for the rest, don’t you know!

I don't seem to be on your list, although I think I was the first to suggest a meeting of Forumites at HQ a few pages back (page 11). So yes please for me. Please let me know when you have a date.

Absolutely, 100% couldn't have said it better myself.

I find reading the thread, irrelevancies and all, very enjoyable. Let the moderator decide, but I suspect it will, as HH states, wither on the vine of its own accord. I also think, that in my experience the "humble"272/555DR/250DR is a revelation, and it has cured me up upgradeitis for years to come, even with A5 cables!

By the way, my cat has polydactaly, as did our new Prime Minister JAcinda Aderns cat, sadly killed in a car accident. Very sad.

If I lived within reasonable reach I'd express an interest if Not displacing genuine Naimophiles, as it would be interesting to put some real characters to the online personas, and at the same time have a chance to discover more about Naim - maybe even find out if I like the Naim sound! However the practicality and cost probably rules it out until a few years time when I might live on the same island.

As for this thread, as with so many it makes for interesting reading.

We had a cat - Vinnie - who had the extra thumb. His party piece was grabbing flies out of the air.

Don't tempt me! Unfortunately 'Life On Mars' tactics would, I fear, be frowned upon today.
