Why did you sell it ?

to have nds/555dr....globally i prefer the nds. But the cdx2 / xps2 had something special, a personality of its own.  But i prefer, for convenience...to have only one digital source.

Exactly my intention when I sold my CDX2. But after one year I bought it once again (pre loved) what perhaps tells something about its specialty. Now I am happy to hear it perhaps once a month..

i could have done like you, but finally made other choices....perhaps one day i will buy it again, or a cd555 with good price....

i read on a discussion that a naim dealer said" the cdx2 is no longer produced ". If it is true, it is sad, the cdx2/xps2 is perhaps the most enjoyable cd player which exists, with a prat and urgency to be damned for, and with a very competitive price. I sold mine 1 year ago, but regret a bit.   True or fake?

Not surprising. I thought that the day would come soon when NAIM would get out of the CD player business. It's like making VCR's, no one wants them. You get equivilant better sound ripping a CD to a Uniti Core and going straight to to a NDS DAC input/NDAC or top flight digital solution if you find CD's you still want. I can't imagine too many people who have not already invested that money in a top flight CDP are ordering them.

you like to give lessons to people....i tried this combination first at a Paris well known audio dealer ( naim/ ear yoshino / ps audio/ audio note/fostex...).  this combo works perfectly.

Some use also aesthetics preamp with naim amps... in general it is better to have tube amp with naim preamp....but there are exceptions.  I have this combo since 2 years. The phono all tube inside is also perfectly quite, as the preamp itself.  I have tried also one day conrad johnson phono with naim 282, few years ago: here it didn't work, too much hum...

Just a question : why not the EAR power amp then?

it's just my opinion, whenever I have tried to remove my 282, (either with Chord Dave driving Nap 250 direct - or with Linn Klimax preamp), it just didn't sound as good as with 282. The Linn preamp made the system sound like Linn, not my cup of tea. I think the cables that Naim supply are also matched to the amps, changing the cables - well you get a sound, but not the one that was intended by Naim Salisbury. That's my finding anyway.

I think these things are synergy, certainly our esteemed moderator has always advised that the Naim preamp and power amp are really one and should be used together.

It's your ears and money, but just curious if you tried EAR power amp.

there are many new CD players around as well, Bryston and Hegel launched new players.... and many japanese / european brands are still on business

can we say maybe cd2x become way too expensive for what it is compare to the new generation of mid priced players?

we as a Naim crowd have a special relationship with cd2x but for a new cd buyer without a brand loyalty cd2x is a less likely choice.... although i can think to change my 9 year old one with a brand new one with optical out

You'd think someone from Naim would have been on here pretty quick to put to bed any rumours that one of their products are no longer available. They could have lost a few sales and this forum is here to generate sales.

Good news anyway.

Agree - but whilst we're here, was the misspelling of Spartacus a deliberate in joke, or just the usual inability of some contributors to use Google, a dictionary or (not recommended!) a spell checker?

By the way, I also find Allante's contributions amusing and fascinating in equal measure- the forum would be a poorer place without him.

some answers: first, i don't like an all naim amp with pre-amp sound for some edginess and hardness in sound, sometimes. But i like the urgency, prat, involvement of naim.  The naim amp gives me this urgency, prat, grip and power on the sound and speakers. The ear preamp , very dynamic too, gives fluency, space and true and rich tone colors , the 282 and 252 were lacking a bit this.

Second reason, the ear has a superb phono stage inside.

With ear amps, the sound was not so dynamic, less urgency and prat...

I was expecting a Knighhood for my contribution to British economy with my 20 year of ONLY NAIM hifi purchases including CD2X.....  not a fan of Scottish wooden boxes thats all....

Even today i will go for a Naim CD player without blinking.

I like to see my favourite brand doing better than competition...

not a fan of scottish boxes too, but a fan of naim components since 15 years....i think just that cdx2 is still on competition for its price and above.

the answer is: no one is interested ?  i understood well? or perhaps you don't want to talk to me, which i may understand ( regards of my recent posts)

There is no excuse to play anything by Focus.

Well, home from work and didn't fancy it, so some Vivaldi and Mozart instead while harvesting honey ... i thought that when I at last sat down to relax I'd get around to Focusing, but Mozart was too engrossing to leave at the time. However having mentioned it I felt duty bound to play A?Q!Q?A! before the end of the evening - no excuses needed, and enjoyable it is as I sit here, even though it is not one of my favourites of theirs. Maybe try Focus instead of the Smiths sometime?

i think you are perhaps referring to me. I have to apologize, i write " cock" but wanted to say " chicken ". in french, chicken is coq.....and in french vocabulary, a " coq" is an agressive guy, a "sheep" ( brebis in french) is a kind and gentle person, but too kind also.

Change of username, Keler Pierre?

Not sure if you're aware, but in (British) English, 'cock' is slang for the human male genitalia.

Do you feel this was necessary after insulting half of the Forum? And comparing yourself to Hitler in the context of your pursuit against Chord DACs (if my recollection is correct)?! The latter in particular I felt was deeply inappropriate and offensive! In fact, I was surprised that the Forum Moderator did not intervene publicly. You might again complain about political correctness, but the trivialisation of the Holocaust is surely beyond challenging political correctness!!!

i think you have not read the topic from the beginning, just took some pieces out of context. I was insulting nobody, a lot of members were joking. A member used the name of " Hitler" because my point was to stop the virus of " chord hugo and mojo" present in a majority of topics, even not referring to dacs.  Some members are also tired by this  But i was not criticizing chord dacs, i even wrote that they are very good dacs.

The topic was not very serious, it was light conversation.  A lot of members gave me " likes" during this topic. I doubt they would do that if was insulting people.  I was, at the end, a bit agressive with one person, who criticized my system. ( debate on the lp12). But i was not insulting him, just being sarcastic.

The major problem in this forum, i think, is that some members take themselves too seriously....  For myself i am polish, specially concerned by Holocaust and Hitler.  But out of this dramatic historical context, we can use the name of Hitler in jokes...Sorry if you can't accept that.

To end i hate " political correctness " and don't care, sorry, if you don't agree and have a wrong opinion of me.  But i wanted just to apologize for the inappropriate word i wrote you.

OK, could members please stay on topic here.  The forum comprises members from many different countries and cultures and the English language is not always a poster's native tongue.  As we all know, humour doesn't always translate well across borders.  So long as nobody is particularly out to offend then I think we can be forgiving if something doesn't come across so well.
