CDX2 vs streaming.

If the 272 is only 5/6 days old you bet it's still breaking in. Big time.

In my experience it takes about 3 weeks before most of the break in process is done and things smooth out and stabalize. It's a steep process at first with sharp up & downs in SQ that gradually flattens out - and improves to - the final performance of a component.

Components and cables that handle more current & power (power amps, power cords, mainsblock, spurs etc.) tend to break in a bit quicker than the low power components like sources, pre-amps and associated cables.

Well I've just had half an hour in the office and the 272 is singing and I can hear why so many have fallen for this little black box. Even Tidal is sounding excellent today, a big difference from 24 hours ago. She's only a week old so I'm looking forward to hearing what the needy couple of weeks bring.

My finger is on the trigger!

Not a problem. I'm away for a couple of days now. Dealer has given me a few weeks to see how I get on. He'll call me in a couple of weeks time so discuss. Before I cross my dealers palm with silver I'll compare original SN/HCDR/CDX2 to 272/250 and post my findings.

I hope to have some time over the weekend to compare my CDX2/SN/HCDR/250DR setup to the new 272/250DR. The 272 has come on a long way since it was first switched on 2 weeks ago and for a week or so now the cdp hasn't been touched. If the 272 is the winner for me I'll look at getting a Nas. I will also need a switch to accommodate the nas as my router is full. Software will be purchased and it will be full steam ahead with streaming.

Along with the SN and HCDR, the CDX2 and TQ din can be traded in which will give me a healthy amount of store credit at my dealers.

Hopefully I'll get to have a listen this evening but it was sounding very good yesterday. I will compare it to SN and cdx2 over the coming weekend.

It's a brilliant bit of kit. Tidal is sounding much better now and the ability to stream new music, sometimes before it's available disc, is great. I still don't think I'd pay the monthly fee though. I'll give Spotify a go as they are offering their premium service for 99p for 3 months and then it's half the cost of Tidal.

I'm currently using the trial version of dbpoweramp and asset on my laptop and they're both simple to use, although I've not tried adjusting some of the incorrect metadata that comes up.

Sound wise the 272 has come on a long way and I'm now hearing more details and it sounds 'lighter' than it did at first switch on.

I've got our dealer looking into a deal on an XPSDR. I have heard this on the 272 and it made a nice difference but it was at a show and I'm sure the difference at home will be considerable.

And I have just accepted an offer to part with my CDX2 and its power supply....

So streaming only at the Z houseold in a few weeks.

I was thinking about having both options, keep my cdx2 and add streaming, just not sure which way to go? Which box have you decided on?

My main system already has an NDS + 555PSDR. So I realised that I hardly used my CDX2 in the last months.
And the 2nd system (NDX and SN2 based) has an Oppo105 as a backup should I have an urge and a need to spin a disc.

So CDX2 will go and I will replace NAP250DR with NAP300DR. My dealer made me an offer that was simply too good to pass  (they always do that, don't they?).

NAP250 will be used with my other system (SN2 as a pre + HiCap DR) for now....

Are you happy with your NDS?

Yes

That could be all the answer that once would / could need.

And a slightly longer one...
I've heard many different sources (analogue and digital) and this is simply one of the best, most coherent ones. On high resolution audio I sometimes wonder which one I prefer - my LP12 with an orginal vinyl or NDS with a re-mastered high-res audio.

On CDs it was a more detailed source than my CDX2. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy my CDX2, but the reality became quite brutal - it was sitting there, gathering dust.

FINKFAN, added a NDX to a Olive system a couple of years ago the CDI just gathered dust got bitten by the quality and convenience of streaming ended up upgrading the Olive system last year and waved bye bye to the CD player.

Since I've sold my CD player I have bought more Cds than ever before just had eight turn up this morning the Core can get hungry at times.

Also using a Unitilite  in a small system upstairs and a Qb in the kitchen or Conservatory depending on the time of year the ease of streaming around the house is very beneficial.

I have an NDX into Olives in the main system, 3 Qbs around the house, and a demo scheduled of the Atom and Nova, it's a slippery slope. And as Pcd, since going to streaming, my CD buying has reached a peak I haven't known for years. I have 25 CDs sitting waiting to be filed on the shelves, that's the purchasing from last month alone.

Eoink, my postman has fitted a CD rack on his trolley.

After a half day of listening with a friend with gold ears and hifi experince of 30 years, listened almost every brand every model

Cd2x + ps555dr + SL interconnects

Vs 272/ps555dr - cisco switch/AQ diamond ethernet cable

Also an alternative ps

With 300dr/focal sopra2/sl full loom

Cd2x/555 combo is clear winner for hım, 10 second only, day and night

I did blind test hım, every single time he identified the cd playback, choose that one

Jazz, classic more obvious, poor recordings less, he even prefered cd to 24/192 , he hates anything other than 16/44

Go figure !

Looks like i need to buy 2 xlr/din cables,  1 din/din and 555psdr...

So nice to have an opportunity to demo! Need urgent lottery win !

For me to establish opinion onanew box sq takes at least amonth always was a bit slow.or mayby you guys suffer from temporary new box fobia.so what can we conclud:a3k pre streamer compromise better then 8-9 k cdx2 xpsdr.l m thinking selling my books and get me a kindel.

With a CDX2/555 and 300, there was presumably a matching preamp in the system, which one might assume would be a 252 if it was well balanced. Hardly surprising that this beats a 272, but you haven't given us the full story.

FinkFan Have you considered an NDX or ND5XS/282/HCDR/250DR  the cost of 272/XPSDR must be in the same ball park as NDX or ND5XS/282, I ask because when I listened to the 272/XPSDR/250 my ND5XS/Chord 2Qute/282/200 was better in all arrears.  The only thing that I can see the 272/XPSDR had over my own system was the fact that it was an end game system and if you have an upgradeitis problem then I can see the attraction.  The ND/282/HCDR/250DR is only one halfwidth box bigger than the three box 272/XPSDR/250DR so no real advantage there and as DAC technology advances the Digital out on the ND streamers can be used to integrate those advances and will keep the system modern and up to date.

Indeed the ability to slot in an external DAC is the beauty of ND boxes...
