F1 - 2017

Doesn't trouble me in the slightest. I've little to no allegiance to any team or driver. I just don't like people throwing loose, incorrect comments about drivers who are working hard to pursue their dreams. You say that Stroll is only in F1 because of his father's money. Well, the money certainly helped, but the one thing that nobody can do is wind back the clock and then see what would happen without that money. Of course, to make that a meaningful, if sci-fi, test, every other driver would have to have all family financial assistance removed, and all family time and effort. Hamilton only got to where he is because of his single-minded determination, his dad's relentless support, and McLaren's belief? That's just not fair!

Ok race. Vettel drove well from the back of the grid. Bizarre post race incident between Vettel and Stroll

I’d say Vettel drove competently from the back of the grid.  Apart from Bottas he was behind his front running competitors and about where you would expect for one of the top three team from the back.

Post race was very bizarre.  The way I see it both were moving slightly towards each other, Stroll not aware Vettel was there, Vettel not expecting Stroll to be moving ... and they came together.

A true “racing incident” ... if it wasn’t for the fact the racing was over.

I thought Ricciardo's defensive move on Vettel was "interesting". Ultimately very effective of course, as Vettel never threatened again. I'd like to see a replay. Nobody else saw much malice in it of course, so I'm possibly just imagining things.

Yes, it will be interesting to see whether Vettel has to swap a gearbox (or worse) as a consequence. Personally, I'm not sure why he was going past Stroll in the first place.

Why unfortunately? A great driver in a great car, driving well, with a team at the top of their game. Seems right to me.

100% spot on Tony.   LH seems to attract a negative reaction among some F1 followers,  I really don't understand it,   it seems to be related to his character, life style or something that I'm just not tuned into.    My normally eloquent daughter who can't say his name without a snide remark has yet to explain it to me or at least explain it in F1 racing & driver terms.    Maybe someone on the forum can enlighten us.

Lewis is a superb driver. He's made it this far on talent rather than family name or cash  too. He enjoys is life outside of a car, reasoning there's more to life than a career I guess. He's usually a PR dream too.

It's just his mannerisms that occasionally wind me up. For God's sake leave your hair alone when you take your helmet off, or get a haircut. And lose the bling on race day, no one can see your nose stud or earings under that helmet!

I think Lewis is one of the great F1 drivers of all time.

His success is completely down to his incredible driving talent, and the fact he has a great team behind him.

My only criticism would be, he has the Donald Trump of haircuts.......find yourself a decent hairstylist....

Two mentions of Lewis's hair  !!!    I fear his hair is/has gone the same way as his dad's,  problem is he seems to be hanging on too long to what he has left,  rumours around about transplants,  but he needs to face up to it & taking the hat off for the anthems is maybe the only time we get to see the problem.

Shame about Max’s penalty. Will have to see a replay of that.

The Ferrari favouritism rears it's ugly head once again..... a shocking decision

Sorry but in this case the penalty was fair... you can argue that they had been letting other drivers off through the race but Verstappen was all 4 wheels off the track.

Congratulations to Mercedes for the constructors championship.  And congratulations to Lewis for the win... the fat lady is certainly getting her dress zipped up now!

I would agree if their was consistency,  but we all know that is not always the case...

The penalty was technically correct,  but something needs to be looked at,  the way KR turned in on MV pushing him into that white line prior to moving out is questionable,  then the consistency of the application of the rules by the stewards (the human factor) is in question.  A good race left with a bad taste  ..........  good drives for both LH & SV,  both true champion drivers .   And well deserved huge congrats to Mercedes for the constructors championship,  absolutely awesome.

If that was consistently the case, I wonder why none of the ex drivers, team principles ect don't seem to agree?

They are idiots.

They know the rules.....and they are definitely not idiots...(well maybe Eddie Jordan... )

But seriously, Vettel for one has been treated with leniency on many occasions and its no coincidence he drives for Ferrari ...

As far as I can tell, they objected to the decision because max drove a great race and deserved to come third. That’s like saying “the goal keeper made such fantastic effort to save the shot, even though the ball was caught 20cm behind the line, we’re going to disallow it”.

Copied from F1Fanatic.

Sebastian Vettel has become the first driver to get three-quarters of the way towards a race ban after being put on nine penalty points at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Ferrari driver was given three penalty points for making contact with Lewis Hamilton during a Safety Car period. That brings him to a total of nine for the current 12-month period. A race ban is automatically applied if a driver reaches 12 points.

Since the penalty points system was introduced at the beginning of 2014 no driver has accumulated more than eight points in a 12-month period.

Sadly it was the right decision I thought. All four wheels of the track and gained an advantage. If he’d have given the place back and overtaken on track, all would have been fine. There were plenty of times in the race when cars went off track, but non gained an advantage, and if they did, they gave the place back and tried again. I think it was MV who hustled VB off the track at one point and then gave the place back. For the most part leaving the track is not advantageous. But if you do and gain a place I think it’s only fair you give it back and try again.

I'd go with that too. All four wheels off the track while overtaking on the inside. Corner cut, apex undershot, advantage gained. If he had one more lap at his disposal I think he would have nailed it somewhere else. They always say "one more..." but that's all Max needed. Apart from Hamilton vanishing up the road, I thought the rest of it was very good.

Yes indeed congrats to Lewis & the whole Mercedes team, well deserved Driver Championship to add to the Manufacturers Championship.    The icing on the cake would be for Valtteri to have a storming last two races as he's only 15 points behind Seb,  1st & 2nd in the Drivers is the grand slam!!!

Waiting to watch on Ch4 to see that start.

With another drivers championship under his belt, Lewis becomes the most successful British F1 driver of all time. Congrats to Merc and Lewis on another great year at the top. I agree with Mike that seeing VB finish second in the drivers championship with be a very good thing! Well done to MV. What a brilliant driver he is. If Red Bull can build him another good car next year, I’m sure he’s a title contender.
