Original Post

Hi All,

I remember doing a similar thing and uploading setup pictures to the Naim Forum as HiFi Lounge was about to launch really not knowing what the future would hold but 5 years on here we go again with a new chapter as we launch 2 new showrooms which will link HiFi Lounge and our other shop 'Highend Headphones', no more traipsing through the car park to go between buildings.

So here are a few pics of the work done so far, things are really starting to take shape now luckily with only 2 weeks to go to the launch event, the carpets going down really helped the acoustics but we will be also adding room treatment from Artnovion, well as long as it arrives in time, the sofa's will be here today then at long last I'll be able to set up a system to see how the rooms sound so really looking forward to that although a little nervous.

We've had a great response to the open day, It looks like it will be a busy one but I am sure we will have enough going on to keep everyone entertained whether that is the Statement or the new Uniti Range.

Anyway on with the pics, interesting looking back at them as this whole process has taken a good few months and has involved a fair bit or work, especially as we doing 2 rooms at the same time, silly things like moving all the socket and running plenty of ethernet, building dividing walls, decorating, installing a top end security system and making sure everything is done to it's best from an audio stand point, but the end is in sight, bring on the Statement :-)

A Long way to go but this will be the Naim Lounge.

Breaking through into HiFi Lounge

Added support to keep upstairs where it should be.

Separating walls going up, making it as inert as possible.

A Big day, cutting through so now we can walk through from HiFi Lounge into Highend Headphones, going through the 2 new showrooms.

Ta-Dah, we're in :-)

As it is now.

Definitely a room with a view although we may need to cover the glass for demo's to help acoustics'.

All being well on April 22nd it will look something like the below.

So there we go, still plenty to do but looking forward to seeing everyone on April 22nd for the launch of our Dedicated Naim room, we will have representative from Naim on hand to help run the day as well as refreshments available.

If you are planning on coming along if you could mail me on paul@hifilounge.co.uk that would be great to help give us an idea on numbers.

Many thanks,

Regards,

Paul.

Naim Statement In The Building + Expansion Update!

Hi All,

It was a big day yesterday as Naim delivered and installed the Statement so that it will be nicely warmed up ahead of our Naim Lounge launch event in a weeks time, it has been constantly on since arriving but I haven’t hooked anything up to it yet, in fact I still haven’t played any music yet in the new rooms, but that is the plan for today, to hook up our NDS/555 to the Statement with a pair of Sopra No2′s to see how it sounds, all very exciting :-)

It has been a while since I have updated how the new rooms are coming along, well they have been a hive of activity for weeks now but the end really is in sight, in reality we could probably have done with a couple more weeks as they won’t be 100% finished but will be very close, this coming week should hopefully see it all come together. For now we have decided to focus on the new Naim room and we can finish off the Highend Room shortly after, so on Tuesday all the acoustic treatment will be arriving from Artnovion who are based in Portugal, looking forward to receiving this as it should look pretty cool and really help the rooms to sound excellent, to be fair though when the carpet’s went down the sound improved dramatically to a point where they actually sound pretty good so I can only imagine how good it will all sound once the treatment is in place. Then on Wednesday all the Naim Art is arriving which will really make the room look amazing as at the moment it is just a blank canvas and finally next week all the Quadraspire racking will be arriving for the Highend Room and we have the glass etcher coming in to hopefully get the sign writing done for the glass doors, phew next week is looking busy.

I think the main parts that won’t be ready are the new blinds for Naim room and we are talking with Vescom regarding acoustic curtains to help with all the glass but it looks like they will be ready just after the event, so next week looks like a week of finishing decorating, hanging wall art and acoustic panels and just adding the finishing touches, oh yes and there will be the small point of PMC delivering the speakers for the launch event :-)

I have to say it has been much more work than I originally anticipated, when the barns came up between HFL and HH I thought simply ‘Yes we’ll take them on’ and thought nothing more but in reality it was a lot of work but I always knew it would be worth it in the end so now I can’t wait for the launch event on April 22nd.

We have had an amazing response with people registering for the launch event and luckily as these new rooms are a fair bit bigger than our other showrooms we’ll be able to fit quite a few people in at a time to listen to the Statement and I have just checked the weather and it is looking like it will be dry so we can open up the gardens.

Anyway, back to work, time to hook up the NDS/555 to the Statement to see how it all sounds, don’t think I’ll be going home much over Easter :-)

Hope to see you at the launch event on April 22nd, if you haven’t yet registered please just fire an e-mail over to me at paul@hifilounge.co.uk, thanks.

Don’t forget Naim are donating a Muso Qb for a raffle so if you come along you could be walking home with that at the end of the day, can’t be bad :-)

Please find a few pictures below of the Statement install.

Regards,

Paul.

Thanks Guys, good to see you on Friday Robert :-)

Did a 14 hour day yesterday but made big steps to getting the rooms ready, finally got some music playing in the Naim Lounge and it actually sound pretty good which is a relief but then having the Statement driving the Sopra No2's would be difficult to make a bad sound :-) In all honesty it is still a little 'Live' but I am now confident that once the room treatment is fitted that will really help.

1 week to go :-)

Now We Are Rocking!

Hi All,

So it has been full steam ahead trying to get everything ready for the Launch event on Saturday of our new showrooms but I just wanted to do a quick post as PMC have just installed the awesome BB5 SE’s which on the end of the Naim Statement are sounding pretty dams good I have to say, which is a relief as I was really worried how the rooms would sound, especially with the BB5′s in there with those huge 15″ bass drivers but in all honesty it is sounding really good, you just can’t beat a big pair of PMC’s :-)

The acoustic treatment arrived yesterday which is being installed at the moment so hopefully by Saturday our new Naim Lounge will really be singing, anyway here are a couple of pictures to whet your appetite :-)

Thanks,

Paul.

Naim Lounge All Ready For Today’s Launch, Phew!

Hi All,

Well there is nothing like an impending launch event to make you focus on getting the job done :-) but after months of work and a past week of 16 hour days we’ve finally got the Naim Lounge ready just by the skin of our teeth, but it has definitely been worth it as it is really looking and sounding excellent.

The final sound panel was installed last night around 5pm then it was a matter of getting everything straight but I am pleased to say we are ready to welcome everyone today :-)

Please find a couple of pictures below of the finished room, next we need to get the ‘Highend Room’ ready, no rest for the wicked :-)

Definitely a room with a view :-)

Look Forward to seeing everyone later.

Cheers,
Paul.

Just spent a delightful, sunny afternoon at Paul & Wendy's Hifi Lounge big Naim & PMC day.  Congratulations to both on such a successful expansion of Hifi Lounge.  The big Naim room really copes well with a properly full-size, full range system.

First though to the upstairs demo room which featured a Uniti Nova driving a pair of PMC 25-24 speakers.  This is the second time that I've heard the Nova, the first time being at the factory with Sopra 1 speakers.  There is something quite special about the Nova; it doesn't sound like good Hifi, it sounds like it's playing seamless, balanced, flowing music. Very few products seem to manage this at any price, so for a £4K one box system to achieve this is special indeed.

The big rig in the New Naim room was memorable.  My CDS3/555PS is due for a service and a DR for the power supply, so I was interested to hear how well an NDS streamer could sound.  The answer was very well indeed.  It wasn't shamed by the Statement amp or the phenomenal PMC BB5 SE speakers with their 15" bass drivers.  Could this system carry a bassline?  I think you know the answer to that one! Suddenly, the 8" bass drivers in my ART speakers seem wholly inadequate after such a tour de force of awe inspiring, fast, dynamic and articulate bass.  This was the most impressive and effortlessly detailed digital music system that I have had the pleasure of listening to.  Only Jon Honeyball's system with the blue tac wonder, statement pre-amp and active Naim DBLs has been in this league.

Coming home and spinning a couple of the same albums has proven to be interesting.  There is something about a well recorded vinyl album and a Vertere turntable that sound even more musical to these cloth ears, though the CDS3 has met its match.

Finally, many thanks to Paul & Wendy for laying on such a great day, to Phil and the team at Naim for sacrificing a Saturday to make the Statement available, and finally to Tom from PMC for bringing along the "half size" BB5 SE speakers. Lord only knows what they must be capable of with the lower bass units as well!

best regards, FT

FT - we went along earlier - sorry to have missed you.

Nice venue and fantastic to see investment in such a facility.  However, again the Statement kind of disappointed me.  Partly due to some of the music but I thought the treble very piercing and even when I switched on Flamenco Sketches.    I've come to the conclusion that very few rooms can integrate these very demanding speakers.

But always good to hear music

I Just wanted to post a quick thank you to everyone who came along today, what a crazy day, well over 100 people through the doors, great to see both new and familiar faces.

Generally the Statement went down very well although Phil's choice of music did it's best to empty the room :-) In our upstairs dem room the new Nova got very well received.

So thanks again everyone who came along as well as everyone from Naim who helped out on the day, time to go home and empty the content of a very nice bottle brought in by a certain FT :-)

Cheers,

Paul.

Likewise Strat.  No doubt we will catch up at the next Naim dealer event!

We had a group of friends round for dinner last night and ended up wandering down memory lane, playing 3 hours of late 70s & 80's vinyl tunes.  Billy Idol's White Wedding always gets everyone dancing round the room, though we also enjoyed Elvis Costello, the Cure, Kate Bush and even Chic's Le Freak (12" single mix!)

Best regards, FT

May I ask, what are the dimensions of the room?  Any special material in the structure...subfloor, cement board, dedicated circuits, ceiling height.  It looks beautiful!

Good questions, just got my tape measure out so 4m's wide, 7.5m's long, vaulted ceiling with the highest point being 4.5m.

It has a floating floor, for the dividing wall we made in as inert as possible by packing out with special acoustic filling but the rest is standard construction, fitted the whole room with acoustic treatment from ArtNovion which really worked wonders and had dedicated mains supply fitted with unswitched sockets.

Finally we are waiting on some acoustic absorption curtains which we are now a dealer for so hilariously we now sell curtains :-)

Pfft! You loved it really...

Phil

P.S. The Rammstein afterwards was fun!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.  Looks like a great space, and I imagine sounded fantastic!  Looking forward to enjoying other's education and sharing my own stumbling

It is great to see an organisation like the HiFi Lounge investing so much in audio retailing. The facilities look superb. We should also recognise that outlets like this help support British HiFi manufacturers and that has to be applauded.

I wish the HiFi Lounge every success.
