Naim new products 2018

2018 was to bring me a 272/250DR but i had a listen to a Devialet Expert 220 Pro... and now own one. Still a one box system that easily bettered the 272/250DR combo and no need to add a PSU.

And you had both combo's home doing a serious compare ? or is rather this months "easily flavour"

my opinion doesn't matter more, it wasn't meant as critic as such, just meaning the box count is pretty pointless or one single posters preaching.

However I think this remark below is more like "assuming his priority matters"

"Who wants their sitting room to look like something from a hifi show?"

you do have a strange choice of words, "preaching".

And HH is 100 % right, not many people, if any, want their living room to look like a hi-fi show.

Those ones will get Davialet not 5 black box naim tower....

Re the OP’s topic, I’d have thought that there might be a lot of commercial mileage for Naim in launching a range of LuminaLite cables. Must be a lot of users who’d happily spend a bit more than NACA5 and the standard cables cost in the pursuit of better sound, but will never spring for SuperLumina prices.

Naim have already started the ball rolling with the Powerline Lite (and of course Fraimlite) and I assume HiLine IC has been a decent seller, so surely the next move is a range of cables at around a third of the price of SL ?

Hands up who would be in the market for those if they gave a worthwhile musical uplift on standard cables?

No not at all, its been a very long and considered upgrade with lots of options tried and tested, in and out of my own environment.

full system details: Devialet Expert 220 Pro / ProAc SM100's / Custom Design SQ404 speaker stands / QNAP TS251+ 8GB RAM 2x1TB Sandisk ultra II SSDs / roon core.

Being 100% server based the whole system makes more sense to me than a pre/PSU/power. Its as focused as it sounds.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum. I'm owner of B&W 804 D3 with B&W DB3D Sub and a Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 (they call it "Power-DAC", 2x85 watts into 8ohm, RoomPerfect Digital Room Correction and Actice Bass Management). I want to step up from the TDAI-2170 and switch to naim maybe. Because of my wife the aesthetics of the hifi equipment is important too (more or less).

I'm between buying a Naim Uniti Nova or the Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 (the bigger brother of the TDAI-2170 released right now with 2x200 watts into 8ohm, two of Naim Nova's 4th generation Sharc processor with 3,0 MFLOPS, RoomPerfect Digital Room Correction, Actice Bass Management and a media player).

I had the Naim Uniti Nova last week for comparison at home and it sounded more open, more dynamic and more detailed than my TDAI-2170 in a 2.0 configuration, even with RoomPerfect active. The TDAI-2170 was first equal to the Nova by activating my sub for the 2.1 configuration, because the sub integration was better with the TDAI-2170. But w/o sub there was a noticeable difference in clearity and dynamics. I did the comparison 2.0 and 2.1 because I actually want to sell my sub again. I'm just a little bit concerned about the 2x80 watts of the Nova, because the sound quality decreases at loud volume levels (a volume level of 60 and above) to my ears with my speakers. That's why I'm thinking about a NAC-N 272 (successor) combined with a NAP 250/300 DR (successor).

Do you know if there will be released a NAC-N 272 successor and NAP 250/300 DR successor this year in 2018? And do you know if there will be some design changes to these components like new cases, Nova's display and/or volume control, white light instead of green light, some light modernization, etc.?

Thank's for the information and for helping me a little bit!

I think a new 250/300 is a definite no, they were updated relatively recently to discrete regulation status, hence the DR designation 250dr etc. I think a 272 replacement is unlikely this year, though a new high end 500 series streamer is pretty certain. For myself I currently use a Nova into a Nap300 dr whilst waiting for the new streamers.

We don't know anything about new products - Naim are keeping quiet. The upcoming Bristol show in February may provide an indication.

You've obviously done a demo, which is the first step, so now you're into the fun/agony of decisions.

I would be wary of assuming more watts are 'better' or more able to fill the room at the volume you want. An amp with the same watts output but of higher quality may be what you need or, of course, better preamp and sources. It's all about getting the right balance for you and your ears.

The 272/300DR is doubtless a big improvement, but a different league in terms of cost. You may find the 272/250DR to your taste for less money; it's been found by owners on this forum to be a great combination.

Good luck with your purchase, and enjoy the music!

And where did you hear that and from whom, Gazza? C’mon, share it with us!

My dealer had a meeting with had of sales at Naim recently and had a moan about Uniti launch and perceived lack of support for classic boxes. Dealer tells me,the customer who is waiting for a new streamer, 500 series and maybe an NDX replacement......Bristol Show?

Could be an expensive day out ???

Mentioning the Bristol show..... do Naim have a booking system for their dems and if so do you have to get their early to book?

i am going to  the Bristol Show this year for the first time in what must be close to 30 years and I would like to attend a Naim dem to hear what they are upto.

Richard, generally you book at the show Naim normally have a demo room and a separate stand area where you can book the demo do this first thing when you arrive at the show it can get very busy.

The NDS is what I would like, but no,definitely 500 series or £20k plus was what I was told, with power supply.......I am sure other streamers will follow later.

And you weren’t sworn to secrecey? How big a hint on the price? Never mind we’ll find out in good time. Having tried the teaser and the big fanfare and having had it fall flat on its arse a few hints dropped to existing customers who are known to be waiting it out may be the new launch strategy.

For me all I hope is that Naim will keep the look and feel of the existing classics range as for me for many years I have always aspired for that little green logo!!

I can only hope they don't change everything to the Lok and feel of the new Uniti range and the modern white logo! 😟

I would be very happy If they’ll just update the streamers with new tech and a new display & volume control (like Uniti Series) this year and just add new modernized cases to all of their products, like NAC/NAP S1 and the Uniti serie. I think they will change the classic case design in future like they have already  started to. I‘m fine with NAP‘s insides today but don‘t like the classic cases and the green light. That‘s what I hope for this year and what would make me switch from my Lyngdorf to a NAC/NAP combo. So let‘s hope, we will see.

It will be exiting to see how the new Statement integrated will look ?

Mini statement design, Uniti design or classic or something in between ?

I guess the classic look days are final.

Also they are possible working on a cheapo Chinese manufactured (Class D ?) integrated perhaps with final UK assemply

I think there are more people than me that would prefer a modern design with white lights in case of the NAPs and the display and the volume control of the Uniti/Statement for the NACs. Have a look at the NAP/NAC S1 that looks really modern and great.

I think the time really good hifi hast to look odd or dull is over. And especially for people having all their hifi stuff in their living room that would be a nice change.

I did not say that my Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 is more beautiful, but at least it has white lights 😜 Just kidding. But that was one reason I had a listen to the Naim Nova. I think there is a market need for good sounding and good looking Amps/Integrateds and in my opinion it‘s not fulfilled by far. If there would be two amps that sound equal in sound quality I would buy the one that looks better to me.
