Disappointing ND555 externally looks the same as the NDX2, but no doubt will be significantly priced higher.

Hopefully, different 'looking' internals might account for the difference in price?

But then where is the brag factor, or can NDX2 buyers post system pictures pretending they have the 555

Wonderful!!!!

A good way to buy the NDX2 first, then replace it with a ND555 without any "deal" with the wife.

...wow, if the NDX2 replaces the NDS than it must be VERY good!

Was indeed hoping for that but a look at the back indicates a single Burndy connection. If I am not mistaken this means that the 555 PS cannot be fully exploited. I cannot see how then the NDX2 can be a match for the NDS with full PS powering it.

Any people who attended the show got any idea on release dates for the NDX2...........

already mentioned to my wife that naim released new toys (my preemptive strike on asking for forgiveness later for the inevitable purchase now in the horizon)

Mathew, talking to the chaps from Naim at the Bristol Show this morning the anticipated release date for the NDX 2 is around July time.

I have posted a couple of pictures taken this morning on the other thread.

Any word about a 272 update? Surely that can’t remain long as the only streamer with old software?

That will go the same way as the NDS

So to upgrade from 272 will be 282/hicap/NDX 2? Not sure about all those boxes. At least my wallet will be happy.

That will simply my decision next time around but not sure I want the complexity and cost of 4 boxes etc - I would look at alternatives

Very interesting, esp the ND5 XS 2 not having any form of TFT display.

Good idea really on the display - looks nice but these things have a history of failing so it's not such a loss.

Good point James. My 'Qute display hasn't had any issues (touch wood) to date, but then again I set the display to turn off more or less straight away.

Slightly disappointed a next gen 272 wasn't announced as I've been holding back on upgrades in anticipation, but I expect this will follow in due course. The possibility of NDX2 and Supernait could be a potent, yet simple two box solution!

i am hapy they have kept the classic look, not sure about the display - use Asset 6 so have that information on IPAD, minor issue,

thats put a question on the SCDR for 282 or NDX2 and sell NDX??? - await demo with great interest before placing order

+1

Some info snippets , hopefully accurately recalled, from a chat with Steve Sells:

Best news is that ND555 needs only one 555PS ( but can of course use 2) ...

DAC technology is the same as NDS, but digital-side improvements over NDS include a seperate ‘box-within-the-box’ for the Digital side which will have its own small brass block suspension, seperate from another similar suspension block for the analogue side.

Analogue changes include use of DR components in that section of the streamer.

CDX2 will stand in the middle of the range. Important improvements over current CDX, but the view is that it still won’t be up to current NDS heights. Rather like CDX2 improved on the CDX, but wasn’t aiming to be better than CDS3.

Gazza, the Burr Brown PCM1704K DAC chips have been long out of production.  However, they are one of the finest, if not the finest DAC chip ever made and over the years Naim have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience in getting the best from them, so not a surprise that they continue to use them ( I assume that like Naim's preferred relays, they have bought up plenty of lifetime stocks).  Naim have traditionally used fine selection to determine which end up at what level (the best for 555).  Naim's DSP development doubtless improves the performance attainable from the PCM1704K even further.

SNIP

We'll have to wait for 'more meat on the bones' from Naim, but based upon this, it seems little more than NDS with a few tweaks, and the oft talked about 'new architecture'; if so, that's rather underwhelming, to say the least. More NDS2, than ND555.

I had hoped for something more interesting 'under the hood', in an effort to get something more fundamentally musical from digital - time will tell, I suppose... fingers crossed.

Thanks for taking the time to get the shots and post the info Kevin. Interesting to see the back panel of the ND555. It seems that the  digital output is still standard S/PDIF so LVDS mentioned in the website blurb must refer to the internal data path between the streamer board and digital section which makes more sense.

For the first time, we’ve added low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) to a premium Naim player. We chose LVDS for its high-definition audio output
