Nova Should I worry?

Oeps....I just traded in my Nait XS-ND5XS- Flatcap XS in order to get myself the Uniti Nova  (has to come in yet). I"m starting to get very worried because I see on this forum and elswhere  on the internet many Uniti products with faults leaving the Naim factory. What"s wrong with Naim? Are they neglecting quality controls nowadays?

Round earth. No thank you.

I've just chatted with a dealer today who says that he's had no issues whatsoever.
He's not my dealer, I'm never going to buy from him (different country whilst I'm on holiday) and I trust him. We're even currently reading the same book!
I wouldn't be worried and am looking forward to getting one for a "second system" soon.

I can only comment on my personal experience and I had 2 faulty Novas in a row with over 1300 difference in serial numbers between both units so not a batch thing I wouldn't of thought.

Both units gave different faults from one another but both suffered from the most worrying crackle from the right channel then stop working till a full power off and back on again. This may only happen once a week but still very worrying and cannot be doing my speakers and good when is was happening.

Also they would crash very frequently just like your home computer and need rebooting.

I had enough in the end and changed it for a ex demo NDX/Supernait2.

No!

Mine has been and is absolutely fine. Clearly a few units have ben faulty and Popeye has been incredibly unlucky but the vast majority are fine.

I agree with Pev. However my only concern would be that the amount of Nova users out there in existence and the miniscule minority that use the forum and have had problems it is very concerning!

The new streamers may have had a difficult launch, but you still have a dealer and support network that will ensure you get a working product. I would just make your buying choice on sound quality, and if it sounds better than your current system, go for it.

Fair point but I would guess that pretty much anyone who has had problems with their Nova would end up here. If you Google Naim Nova problems, this forum is top of the list!

I was also unlucky with the Nova with multiple returns. Different issues each time (screen developing white bands, HDMI ceasing to function, Input selection malfunction). I was disappointed but the dealer / naim support has been fantastic.  I realise that the Nova is essentially a much more complicated product than anything naim has developed to date. I have decided to wait a bit. Currently considering a supernait 2 or another nova after a while.

I had to return my 1st Nova - multiple issues (max volume, lock ups and HDMI meltdown).

The 2nd (current) Nova I just decided to not bother with HDMI (shame as it is why i bought it - speakers sit either side of my TV) and overlook the lock ups and having to power cycle maybe once a week.

Its sounds bloody amazing, but dreadful experience, i chose to stick it out.

My dealer said customers having nothing but issues (and quite critical of the head in the sand mentality), he did seem aware of specific issues (i related to) so not the usual that's not good, buy this (as i get more commission)

I replaced the 272 with the Nova (kept the 250DR). I have had zero issues and the streaming problems I had with the 272 are gone!

Sound quality is identical to the 272 when using the 250DR amp.

I’m another very satisfied Nova/250DR user. I had one problem with losing my Tidal connection but re-booting the Nova quickly solved the issue

Just out of interest guys what made you go this route, isn't alot of the Nova redundant in this scenario?

It’s the only option for upgrading the Nova, you cannot add a power supply. I personally liked the styling, the interface, it sounded similar to a 272. Also Naim have made it clear that this platform can be upgraded more easily with firmware, whereas the 272 is unlikely to be further developed.
