UnitiServe SSD > died tonight + help with MinimServer

Adam Zielinski ·
Have to vent, hence this post. But also need some advice... Came back from our Easter break, fired up all the equipment as usual. UnitiServe kept on flashing, flashing, flashing. Tried all the usual tricks... to no avail. The most annoying thing is that this one is not even 1 year old. The previous one died at a tender age of 4 months So emergency procedure - fired up the MinimServer. The 'problem' is that my NAS directory has two folders at a root level: NaimDownloads and NaimRips. As far...

Naim itself is ripping to WAV and building its DB with "tags" etc. It would be very nice if one could edit the DB entries directly for downloaded tracks as well - e.g. correcting the errors etc. I presume there are no ways to do that ... ?

Download MEET ME IN LONDON in 24bit/192kHz to win an ND5 XS worth £1925!

Simon Drake ·
Naim Label guitar virtuoso Antonio Forcione was touring Europe, when he chanced upon the stunning tone and control of twenty-something Sabina Sciubba at an after-show celebration in Hamburg. Upon his return to the UK, he made a beeline for Naim Audio with a spur-of-the-moment idea to take this amazing young lady into the studio. Antonio and Sabina exchanged demo tapes and song ideas until in the autumn of 1997, the two met at September Sound Studio in Twickenham to record an album of popular...

What a fascinating insight to the process. You thought digital was easy? What I want to know is, does a 192 recording change much if played at 96, if it can?

The Naim Label site is currently listing the MP3 prices for the album tracks but the pulldowns show 24/192. If I add a track to the shopping cart the track detail on the left shows MP3 320k but the pulldown on the right shows Super Hi Definition 24bit 192kHz. I only get the correct prices if I change the download format pulldown. I'm using Chrome 15.0.874.121 m.

To be honest BigH, 192kHz is such a different world, we weren't happy with downsampling we heard. It didn't quite cut it. In the new year, we'll keep working on it and you might just get a 96kHz version to compare. It is best in its rawest form (24/192 WAV), for certain! The part of the process the video does NOT show was Tony Platt coming to Naim to explore the differences between formats and sample rates last week. At 192kHz, it was an eye (or should I say ear) opening experience! Roo -...

A signature sound is only bad if you don't like that signature sound, most likely because it attracts too much attention to itself. For example, I have had problems with the ELO / Jeff Lynne signature sound for a very long time, because it is so easily recognizable - even when Jeff Lynne produced Tom Petty or The Travelling Wilbury's. I love the sound of early ELO, though. I have downloaded the sweet-sounding MEET ME IN LONDON-album in 24bit/192kHz.Compared to a Jack Johnson remastered album...

No MP3s allowed on that page, don't worry. The fault has been removed, thank you for pointing it out. The store defaults to the prices of the format purchased last time by the registered user and in this case no MP3s exist, so it was a little confused! Which is also why not everyone (including me) saw the problem, so thank you again! This album is a prime choice for showing off the NDX!

Hi All, I download this album late last nite and I couldn't describe the sound better than in the video uplaod (above). You couldn't miss - The separation/imaging of instruments/vocals - Left, Right & Centre, Front & Back. Although, I do not have standard version of this album to compare to but the hi-res is so smooth & relaxing. At £17.99 an album is almost twice the price of standard version, the question is: Is it twice as good? Akd

Hi Members, I need some advize. Just ought the Antonio Forcione "Meet Me in London" CD at 192khz in FLAC format. I was hoping my SQ Touch would play it, but it doesn't. The SQ is limited to 96/24. Can somebody advize me how to convert 192/24 into 96/24. I use Windows 7 with DbPowerAmp and iTunes. Converting to 96 can be done, but than the sample rate drops to 16 in iTunes, whereas I want to keep the 24bit. Whatis the workaround ?

Thats better. Finished with 360-400kb/s Now for a back up of the file while warming up the amps for a bi of a comparison. I run Mac/Weiss int202/Ndac so no problems with playing the file for me. I must say this seems to be a very refreshing approach to high def after HDtracks. Mind you, if Naim can't do it seriously then who would. Now I'm off to do some listening.

<Idiot warning - I really know nothing about this BUT> I was saddened to hear ProTools mentioned. I blame it (rightly or wrongly) for a lot of the travesties of mastering and mixing that get fed up to me in the name of music. I think ProTools has a signature and it's not one I like. and it seems to be bloody ubiquitous SJB

Apparently it will. Supernait claims to handle 24/192 files. I considered trading in my 122x/150x for a supernait (an extra £1000 probably)... but the super nait is spensive; probably not THAT much better than what I have and I'd still need something else to stream the data. A lot of investment to play a few files.

What a fascinating article .... even at this level of audio it seems they're happy to tweak the sound with digital limiters and eq software. When targeting at the "high end" I'd always assumed things were best left alone. Sadly I'd little use for the new high res mix as my system can only handle 16bit/44.1kHz FLACs. But it reminded me that I've been meaning to buy "meet me in London" for years, so downloaded the original instead. It's great, especially track 8 "Brasilico" and £7 cheaper too!

It is a very good album, I have it on CD (signed by the artists), record and now as a download. I like the record version better than the CD, seems to have more presence. However the best is from a memory stick directly into the NDac, a bit better than going through the SB Touch, lovely separation and will always be one of my favourite recordings. Tim

I down loaded the album tonight and I can only hear around ten seconds at a time ? I noticed the buffer indicator on the n stream app was filling up fast. When it hit zero the music stops and then starts up again as the buffer empties. Anyone know how to stop this happening. As a positive note the sound was fantastic, just wish I could hear it all at once.
