Re: MuSo Still Randomly switching Input Sources after Update

andarkian ·
The only real problem I had was with the optical input switching off temporarily. That stopped with the new firmware. I use Spotify a lot on the Muso with various iDevices, often switching between them and have found the integration between the products to be very good and absolutely stable. I also actually use the Naim control app a lot more now and that also works effectively. Don't really use the radio but as far as I can tell that's fine also. Sounds like a problem with your specific unit.

Hi, Can you tell me whether you have contacted anyone here at Naim about this issue? It's not one that I remember having passed across my desk... Obviously we can only try to fix issues that we are aware about so if you can contact us on support@naimaudio.com (as per the sticky at the top of each forum) then maybe we can try to find out what the issue is... Cheers Phil Harris

I had the same problem. The iPad app and UnitiQute wouldn't connect to Spotify after the update. I downloaded Net Analyzer on my iPad and the Qute doesn't show the Bonjour logo. I used Spotify on my Macbook and that immediately connected to the UnitiQute. After that the iPad worked as well. So problem solved....but the mysterie remains :-)

HDX Problem Fan

FAN ISSUE, never heard before! Fan runs at 120MPH, almost blowing you down at times! HELP! Paramaters : HDX, running 1.7b, and have been running this almost from release date, w/o issue. In fact, unit runs fine. Out of the wild blue, about 2 weeks ago, I shut unit, to place in standby mode after listening session of maybe 2-3 hours, and fan seems to go into hyper mode...which I don't think it ever did before. Hi Audiosavant Not sure why your fan would have come on and in that situation a power cycle is the right action. But from what you say, I'm not sure that you were doing it the correct way. It is very important that you shut the HDX down properly, which isn't just by turning the switch on the back to off. You must shut it down via the shutdown key on the remote or by pressing and holding the shutdown button the front panel for a couple of seconds. The shutdown button light will flash until it...

Not sure if that is an issue . In my raid unit , with one WD red 2tb And one seagate the monitor Temps are typically 37 & 40 Respectfully , during use with HDX . Hi Audiosavant, I think I have the same issue with my HDX fan: when shutting down the unit, the fan seems to start running at maximum speed and won't stop until I switch of the HDX from the back panel. However, I'm not worried about this since I leave the HDX up and running 24/7. For the time being, I choose to keep it this way and bring it in for repair combined with a hard drive upgrade or conversion to SSD :-) Many regards, Michel

Don’t know if that is a solution, or more of an acceptance of a not if, but when the unit will fail, I’ll fix it, which is hopefully not before I swap out my drives. I am unfortunately in the same boat. I would love to figure out how to burn the ISO file of the OS from the HDX onto a USB key, or new drive, and swap drives myself. Naim says it is impossible, but if they can burn the ISO, so can we! PS: Using a Samsung EVO 850 500MB within my BRYSTON BDP2, and in tests it is SO MUCH faster...

Audiosavant Naim say in the Forum guidance that they don't routinely monitor forum postings and although they often do pick up on issues from the forum, it's best to contact them directly if you have a problem that forum members haven't been able to solve. Naim's technical support service is excellent so I suggest that you either email them or phone them. The details on how to do this are in the sticky at the top part of the forum. best David

Tidal unavailable on Naim uniti 2

Luxy33 ·
Dear Naim members, Well the problem is simple but I don't know how to fix it. I would like to use Tidal streaming service on my Uniti 2. To do so, I did a firmware upgrade. My system well displays the latest version of the firmware, v4.4.00. But in the input list where I can select, CD, DAB, Spotify, etc. Tidal does not appear. I have already checked on the forum for similar issues. Some advise to turn the uniti off and on, to do a "reset all settings", to disable-enable the upnp input, but...

Luxy33, I had a similar problem when I first tried to access Tidal until someone told me that there was a second page of sources on the selection page of the Naim app. You have to swipe to the left on the line with the source options to drag in the 2nd page which includes Tidal. Could this be your problem?

Go to Settings > Input settings and make sure the Tidal input is checked. If you also uncheck any inputs that you don't use, they won't show up on the screen any more, so if, as Hmack suggests, the Tidal input is on a second page, this might move it to the page you can see first.

Thanks Hungryhalibut, Hmack, Chrissu, For Hungryhalibut: I think I already have the latest firmware, it's the 4.4.00, see the picture below. For the others: to select the Input I have a choice between 17 inputs. I used the remote to browse through the different available inputs. I did a video of it, this way you can maybe tell me if I missed something? That link was interesting! First it took be to the App Store to download Skybet, then it took me to a VR explicit porn site, and I kid you not! Anyway, I've taken a photo of the input screen on my 272, which is basically the same. You see that most of my inputs are disabled, but Tidal is not. Do you get the same thing?

No I don't have the same. I don't see TIDAL and I don't see Bluetooth. I have the first generation of Uniti 2 without Bluetooth hardware, that's probably why I don't see this input. Finally my inputs (enable or disable) are the following: CD, FM, DAB, iRadio, Multiroom, UPnP, USB/iPob, Spotify, Front, Analogue 1, Analogue 2, Analogue 3, Phono, Digital 1, Digital 2, Digital 3, Digital 4 => 17 inputs. Don't you think that I should try to re-upload the 4.4.00 firmware? Maybe there was...

You could try a factory reset on the Uniti (NOTE THIS WILL ERASE ALL PRESETS AND SETTINGS ON THE UNITI!) and see if that resolves the issue. Otherwise try re-updating the firmware. You could try the latter first, you shouldn't lose your settings that way. When performing the factory reset, disconnect the ethernet cable if used. This will allow the streamer to fully reset. Easy way to factory reset, power the Uniti off, and power on while holding 'stop'. Then follow the on screen instructions.

HH, this is probably not an issue as he has Spotify as an input, which would not be available on the old 96khz board. I think this is just a firmware update issue, or a confused Uniti requiring a reset.

Re: Tidal unavailable on Naim uniti 2

I really wouldn't suggest you try loading the firmware again. That is not going to help you at all. But a factory reset is certainly worth a try. And of course HH's basic check in his last post, but if it's a Uniti 2 you should be ok from a hardware point of view, I think. i reckon a factory reset and then check the available inputs in setup again is the next step. best David

Hi, Is your unit a 24/96 capable unit or is it a 24/192 capable unit? Check the BC SW entry in "Tools" -> "Factory Settings" -> "System Status" - if it starts with 2D then you have a 24/96 unit which cannot do TIDAL without a hardware update... Also, when you did the firmware update did the firmware updater tell you that it had completed correctly or did you get an error message and just see that your unit now shows firmware 4.4...? Phil

Hi Phil, In the System Status, the BC SW shows 3D13577, so I think my Uniti capable of playing 24/192 files. But, now that you say it, it is true that when I did the firmware update, it finished with a kind of error message. But because the Uniti 2 worked fine and showed the 4.4 version, I though it was fine. Maybe not... I tried a new factory reset using the technique of switching off and on + STOP button, still did'nt change anything. The last solution I see: reload a 4.4 firmware! I keep...

NAT02 Low-Pass filter issue

OliverTT ·
Hi all, I have for a few year now a NAT02 I mainly use for casual listening. I recently do some critical listening and discover that I may have a problem with the stereo decoder. After further investigation, It seems that the tuner totally miss any low-pass filtering of the audio output. As a result the audio output show a lot of ultrasonic noise around the 38kHz subcarrier and not rejection of the 19kHz pilot. Just ot illustrate here is an analysis of frequency of a brief recording. It...

Re: NAT02 Low-Pass filter issue

Ron Toolsie ·
The frequency sweep of my NAT-01 shows pretty good rejection of the 19kHz pilot wave (around 50dB rejection) . I don't have much beyond 21kHz as this was archived to a CD-R which cuts off steeply at 22k. Your sweep shows the ultrasonic noise to be pretty low level in amplitude. And of course any respectable Naim preamp would further attenuate these ultrasonic aberrations. How does your NAT02 sound though?

Hi Ron thanks for your post. To answer to your question, not so good. In fact, I have tried to low-pass the recording @ about 21kHz and strangely, even on ultrasonic frequency, it improve sound a lot. The graph for your NAT01 looks pretty normal, even considering comparaison on different tuner, recorder, software and kind of graph ( I choose linear frequnecy to highlight the problem). I have just compared with other tuner I have at hand, and it definively shows something is wrong. For...

They charge 540 euros for a repair (it's flat rate). It does not make sense related to the cost of the unit ! Will try to find an alternate solution.
