When Did Latest XS2 Begin ?

Posted by: Nina on 26 August 2015

Can anyone tell me from when the current XS2 model started, either the year or serial number would be a great help

Also does anyone know if the XS2 is up for replacement anytime soon ?

Thanks for any help

Typically I go here to find history:

https://www.naimaudio.com/product-history

On this page is also a link to show the S/N and year:

https://www.naimaudio.com/serial-numbers

The issue is this page has pretty stale content, not sure its been updated since 2013-ish?

Can't find anything with a date in the source, but I guess its down to someone going and hacking out some pure HTML to update it.

<td>1995</td>
<td>Replaced by CD3-5</td>
<td>1997</td>
</tr><tr><td>CD3-5</td>
<td>1997</td>
<td>Discontinued and replaced by CD5</td>
<td>2000</td>
</tr><tr><td>CD5</td>
<td>2000</td>
<td>Replaced by CD5i</td>
<td>2003</td>
</tr><tr><td>CD5i</td>
<td>2003</td>
<td>Upgraded to 'italic' spec</td>
<td>2007</td>
</tr><tr><td>CD5<em>i</em></td>
<td>2003</td>

The first SuperNait was released in late 2007/early 2008 it seems. The SuperNait2 was released along with the 5s-i and XS2/70wpc in late 2013. This is a good 5 years between IA releases. Given the reputation of the newest models, I would argue that the won't need updating until around 2018 or so. Meanwhile, they probably have bigger fish to fry.

I think the OP's primary intent is to identify when, by SN, the Nait XS changed from the 60W to the 70W model?

@Nina,

Assuming you're looking at buying a s/h Nait XS2, it can be confusing. I had a later 60W model, yet it was stickered as a "Nait XS2" on the box. If photos are available, the HP output will be your key. The 60W model had the smaller (and rather useless) 3.5-mm input jack on front, while the 70W model has the larger 1/4-inch HP out in its place. Should be obvious in a photo.

The 70W model is relatively new and I'd doubt any upgrade to it soon, but that's only personal speculation. I'd feel confident buying the 70W version at this time.

Yep the XS2 and SN2 are not listed.

The list is pretty important to me, since I'm trying to learn the lineage of the equipment.

Maybe they can open source the history page and someone can update it.

A tree would be cool as well...also a system configurator for your profile to build your system!

Indeed. I went to the Naim Audio Product History page prior to my post and was a bit miffed to see the lack of continuity presented in their product lineage. Seems to me that updating the product history page ought to be on Naim's checklist of "things to do" upon release of a new product.

The new family of integrates was launched on early summer 2013 XS2 included.

Power output was also uprated from 60W to 70W

The XS2 has arrived.  It is definitely the latest version as it has the 1/4” headphone output
