When is Naim going to fix the NDX?

Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 14 October 2011

Is there any news to the bugs/faults to the current NDX, especially the hidef encapsulated art crashing problem?
Is there going to be firmware update to the original streamer boards, or are the new boards going to be the fix to the current faults? Clearly if the latter, there can't be any charge under consumer protection law - especially in the UK. I am not interested so much in 192kHz sample rate right now, but am frustrated at the streamer board lock ups.
I was not wanting to turn into disgruntled customer and was willing to wait to October for the bug fixes, but still no news. Is it time to start getting formal with Naim/dealer although I would prefer not to....?

Apart from the hi res art issue, what other bugs have you got Simon ?

Hi James, there are some oddities of enabling and disabling digital inputs, where sometimes you need to power cycle for the settings to work, and sometimes for some codec bandwidth combinations in web radio incorrect values are shown displayed. The DHCP client sometimes fails when trying to get a network address and then just sits there until power cycled.
That's all, so shouldnt be to much of an ask to fix, but it's the crashes that need power cycles I don't like as I like to leave my equipment switched on.

I wonder whether this has anything to do with the allegedly inferior sq of dbpoweramp rips that was mentioned a while back.. if the thing falls over because of (legitimate) artwork, there may well be other things it doesn't get right as well. ..

Sorry to hear of your woes Simon. My first NDX was replaced due to a faulty screen, which did not impress, but I have had no issues with the new unit (I use AIFF throughout though). I have had issues with the UnitiServe (I cancelled the order) and the nDAC and the latest NDX ND5XS faff is nearly the last straw. Trying new products from the Scottish company next week, which if the SQ is good means a drop from 6 boxes to 3 when I factor in the LP12 motor unit. And I don't even have an external PS for the nDAC. Al.

Hi Simon, that doesn't sound good. I must admit i've not had any of those issues. The only issue i've had turned out to be due to the software i was using to import my flac downloads into iTunes otherwise its been faultless so far. Are you outside the upgrade time limit for the 192 board ?

Hi James, I got my NDX beginning of July so I don't what that means. Either way once there is an update or repair available I will be insisting on it under my consumer rights if there are any shenanigans. Simon

First off Simon, I'd be surprised if Naim don't sort you out if you bought your NDX last July.

And undoubtedly you have been very helpful to me and many others on the forum in setting up our streaming.

I also appreciate your annoyance with some of the "bugs" inherent in some of the Naim streaming experience at the moment.

However in this instance I think the better approach is through your dealer or directly to Naim themselves and not on the forum.

Naim would be mad to say on the forum, "Simon, how right you are, we sold you defective products, replacements on the way".

John you are absolutely right, and I suspect my local retailer will sort things out for me, hopefully not all at their own cost,  but I felt it was right to air my  frustration with Naim about the lack of progress on these fixes on the forum.

Simon, you have every rights to express your dissatisfaction about your situation. What I am hearing it is very irritating. Sometimes a bit of a publicity is the only thing that helps, unfortunately. I hope the problems you are facing will be solved soon.
