A future champion taken away.
Tony
This is a black week, the day after Dan's funeral, another talent this time in MGP.
I can't bring my self to watch the video, but surely in this day and age , a crash hat shouldn't come off?
RIP Marco, the best to his family and friends, and also our thoughts go out to the other riders concerned, I can't begin to understand how they are feeling. It always seems so much more personal in motorcycle racing, not having a carbon fibre shell around you like the cars.
Sad news indeed. Although motorsport is dangerous by nature you never want to hear these. The first one I remember was the incindet that killed Jarno Saarinen at Monza, still vividly in my mind.
My sympathy for Marco´s family and friends.
Yep - this is just awful.
When a helmet comes off in a motor race crash, one fears the worst.......
R.I.P. Marco.

I have seen the video & it looks as though he was already slumped over his bike coming off the bend, before falling off in front of the other bikes.

I see what you mean. Very strange crash. Very rare to see a crash or loss of control that brings a bike to the inside of the corner. It looks like instead of getting on the throttle to straighten up and exit the curve, his bike wasn't really under power and was slowing and just kept turning. The video I saw did not show much of the lead up to the crash, though.
Terrible freak accident that took the life of one of Moto GP's fastest rising young stars.
Watching Marco ride was one of the few things that kept the class interesting this season.
Also feel gutted for Colin Edwards and especially Valentino Rossi as he was close friends with Simoncelli....
I was watching this morning and when I saw the bikes hit him, the helmet go bouncing away and his body on the track, I thought 'He's dead.' So I was astonished and very relieved when they announced he was concious in the medical centre. And you could just see this big weight lift around the paddock because everyone had clearly thought the same when they saw it.
Only later did I hear he hadn't made it. Somehow made worse by thinking he'd managed a miracle escape.
Our thoughts should be with his family and friends as well as Edwards and Rossi who were unfortunately caught up in the accident.
A great, at times controversial, but undeniably extremely talented young man whose life has been cut short by this freakish accident. RIP.
From Twitter:-
Daily Mail online put a reverse looking picture of Marco lying dying in the road, tactless bastards.
Ciao Marco,riposa in pace.
