Good man - be interested to hear how you get on. The NDX took a couple of weeks to come fully on song.

Hi Rich46 -

Digital output into what?   What's your setup look like these days?

I do not think that running in is needed if digital rather than analogue out is being used.

Posted on: 25 October 2011 by rich46

agreed. but the streamer still has components that have allways been cold. run in and paid for ,now its mine   regards

Yes I certainly recommend running in even using the digital outs. (think of those earth current loops and decoupling capacitors, as well as the clock circuitry moving into its quiescent operating mode)

Hi Rich46, any new updates on your ND5 XS.
Posted on: 14 November 2011 by rich46

just to say ive tried several streamers, the last one was the cyrus stream x.

the 5 is a great overall package through the ndac. the output through thequad 2805 is simpley the best ive heard. WITH ANY SOURCE including the black stuff..

96k and 192k downloads are just excellent , its just a pity it will take years for all music to be offered.

what did suprise me how good the  ns5  sounds via the analogue output is.

there is an improvement when you use to short cat6 cables to connect the nds5 and the ripnas together with a powered network switch, i used a netgear one

did try to add a power supply to the dac but i thought it was too expensive for a small improvement.  changing the stardard power supply of  ripnas  to a regulated linear  type improved the performance .

the app is ok but needs work on it   radio is fine and the display for radio via ipad is pleasing.

Hi Rich, interesting read thank you. I'm using a Cyrus CD7/psr-x as a transport into the nDac at the moment. How does the ND5xs compare to the Cyrus transport into the nDAC for normal CD quality material, is it any better?

Posted on: 15 November 2011 by rich46

the cyrus cdt+ transport /power supply into the dac is a class act ,fast and clean .

the ns5 is very veryclose and it is difficult to say which gives the best music.

just to say fast access to close to  3000cds with the streamer must have my overall vote

the  s treamer from its analogue output is behind the transport/dac, so it should be .

i bet the 5 will out sell all naim streamers it is a great affordable solution for most.

I bought an ND5 XS and picked it up yesterday.  All I've done so far is listen to the FM, first rock station I tuned in had PF the wall, WOW!.  My iMac is being loaded with my CDs and I don't have  the right connector and cable, also since it was mom's computer I have to get a friend to adjust it. It'll be hard wired. Sound is incredible but I had bought the 555PS for my CDX2,  I have to leave for 3 days so it'll warm up and maybe next weekend I'll get to use more of the system.  I'm not very adept and all this stuff.

FM sounds good but surprisingly it streams at a low 32 kHZ if you are using digital out to an external DAC, lower than redbook's 44.1! You can upsampke to 24/96 if your external DAC can handle hirez.
