Unitiserve 1.6 update

Posted by: KRM on 28 October 2011

I've just received the update disk, but there are no instructions for the Unitiserve, only the HDX. Has anyone out there installed it on the Unitiserve and if so, how?

Instructions are the same for all Naim servers.

So when it says "switch the unit to shutdown mode using the remote", what do you do if you don't have a remote and you didn't know your Unitserve has a shutdown mode (ignoring the fact that it doesn't have a draw that apparently needs to be open)?

The Unitiserve shutdown mode is activated by keeping a finger on the logo until it starts flashing (the logo, that is).

Now enjoying iRadio on the Serve. Great stuff ; thanks Naim !

I have no idea why that's in the manual. During the last couple of updates, I switched off the HDX via the front panel switch. The remote is somewhere on the attic...

Given that this seems to be the only thread concerning the U/Serve 1.6 update I assume I am (almost) alone having difficulty upgrading my machine.  I've managed toi update Desktop client but the unit tiself appears to not be reading the update file from the CD I've burnt.   The instructions are pretty sparse in detail so can anyone advise what should be on the CD - is it the zip file as downloaded from the Naim site or does it need to be unzipped or are there particular files within the zip that need to be transferred to the CD? Thanks for any help.........

Rgds.,

Tony.

Naim provided upgrade discs, so if you have any problems maybe you could contact your dealer.

Just installed the new software into my Uniti SSD.  Works well, and the internet radio is a nice bonus.

Since the Uniti is connected to the internet, why can't it update itself?

Allen,

Thanks for the advice.  Have burnt and tried CD with every option possible i.e. as upgrade folder complete, as individual zip files (nssrv_upgrade_v1.6b) and with original complete download.  US now is spinning permanently and won't release the CD !!   Went to dealer who were unsure what I was referring to!!  Any ideas how to stop it spinning and release the CD..the unit looks like it's faulty now.....

Thanks,

Tony.

Chris,

Lucky you!  See my recent reply.  US is now locked up completely ...I've given up....

Anthony... that sucks.  Wish I could help.

My biggest criticism of the Uniti Serve SSD is lack of plug and play.  You need access to an IT guy to make it all work.  Naim has always had a very simple "less is more" approach to their products.  This should not be this complicated. Seriously guys,  I hope future products will not require so much work. If a regular "joe" can't make it work, then it's been poorly designed.

Hi Anthony, I feel your pain!

Get down to your dealer, or if that's not possible, call customer support tomorrow morning - they really are very good.

Anthony, you are not doing it correctly, you are simply creating a data cd, the disk needs to be 'mountable'

Take it to your dealer

Hi Anthony

Try burning the CD with an ISO burner - Nero on a PC or Toast on a Mac can do this easily. Or on a Mac you can use the disk utility to do it if you haven't got Toast (sorry I've only used Nero on a PC so I'm not sure how you do it without). This works on my Mac to create a mountable disc.

  1. Insert a blank disc.
  2. Start Disk Utility.
  3. From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the ISO to be burned.
  4. In the list of volumes, you will now see an item representing the ISO file. Select it.
  5. Click the Burn button and follow the instructions.

If you try this it may work. I've not used a US, but the problem you describe is similar to one a customer of mine had when he didn't burn the CD in the right format. It is as Gary describes.

I'm sure your dealer should be able to help.

If I'm right your CD won't work on any US - i.e. it is your CD and not the US.

Good luck

All the best, Guy

Right, Folks, cracked it !!  Never heard of this ISO 'thing' before.  Burnt a disk using W7 - no add-on required.  Thanks to all....good to know you're all out there watching!

Tuned into 'Techniclor Web Of Sound...13th Floor Eleveators playing...tremendous stuff..........

Thanks again.

Tony.
