DVD drive used in HDX

Posted by: sktn77a on 28 October 2011

Given the transient existence of computer hardware (as evidenced by even specialist hardware such as the Philips VAM1250 mechanism used in the CDX2 and CDS3 players) I want to buy an IDE DVD burner for future backup for my HDX in case NAIM is blindsided by IDE drive manufacturers the way they were by Philips.  The drive in my HDX is a SAMSUNG SH-S202J/BEBE which is no longer available.  What optical drives do people have in their HDX players?  Maybe I can find one of these still in the distribution system.

(I'm assuming 3.5" SATA HDDs will be available for quite some time in the future).

Thanks,

Keith

It's a non-issue as there are extra SATA connections free on the motherboard, should a different type drive be required; it's not the same as a CD player mechanism.

Thanks Dave:  Yes, I understand it's not a CD-ROM - it's a DVD/RW.  But it's good to know that the ITX board had extra SATA connections and that a standard SATA DVD/RW drive will work (assuming it physically fits).
