Anyone heard this yet? And any views on the various versions?

Got mine on pre-order but haven't heard any of the tracks yet.

Which version are people buying? Mike

I'm minded to go for the single CD version (which seems to be a UK, but not a US, release) and, if I like that, get the 2LP set.

I find that these studio outtakes are interesting to hear once, perhaps, but aren't really for repeated listening, so I shan't be aiming for the "big box".

Don't get the single CD, get the double box for a few quid more. There's lots of great stuff on its disc 2 as well as nice bits in the box.

I snaffled one from a nice store guy last Friday. Sound quality on all tracks is way beyond expectations and it's HDCD for Naimees!!

There are some surprises even for hard-core fans, such as a new descant harmony vocal on the Child is Father chorus, and a lovely solo version of Surf's Up by Brian. The 8 minute vocal montage is worth the price of admission.

I've ordered this one in the US, just over $100. Unfortunately amazon.uk wants the same in sterling.

Promo video with never before seen footage of Good Vibrations session and slightly bizarre interviews with the group:

I grabbed the 200gm vinyl version when it was first released.  Nice album and great sound quality.

I decided that I didn't want the extra bits, so have ordered the single CD and 2LP: all reports are positive, so I'm looking forward to hearing these.

I'll be going for the 2cd version in due course.

How will this differ from the Brian Wilson release a few years back?

They were recorded by different musicians (other than Brian Wilson himself) some 40 years apart, so what do you suppose?

Just listening to the "new" old version for the first time, I'd have to say that it's sweeter, darker and deeper than Brian Wilson's recent remake. I suspect that I'll be able to listen to it hundreds of times, and find new things at each listening, which is a lovely prospect as the nights draw in.

Those who think that the other Beach Boys in the 1960s added nothing more than vocals forget that their vocals are stupendous!

Bought it today, or rather my wife did for my Christmas and I persuaded her to let me have it.

It's beautiful but I was surprised how similar it was to Brian's. Maybe not the Smile we'd have heard in 1967.

I'll have to spend more time listening to Brian's to decide which I prefer. I certainly like his extended Heroes and Villains but the original Surf's Up is something to behold, and his solo version almost as good.

What a horrible few days ahead

Just buy it.

Well all i can say,

After spending years listening to MANY bootlegs and the thing that came out a couple of years ago..

At last a wonderful album..

Dont just buy the standard CD if you have to go down the CD  route?

Its the Extra stuff that makes this ALBUM.

You need to drink it in through your skin.
