What's going on ?

I use the UnitiServe in two different houses, controlling via the nServe app. Internet access in house 1 but not house 2. Installed the1.6B update to the Serve last week in house 1. nServe app works fine in house 1 but not 2, where it constantly loses the network connection, taking minutes to reconnect. Prior to the update, nServe worked fine in both houses.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks guys,
Jan
I use the UnitiServe in two different houses,
Showoff....
Thanks Patrick, that was most useful .
Any ideas as to why upgrading to v1.6 now causes the nServe app to lose the network in the second house? Is it the lack of an internet connection?
Jan
whatever
NOthing to do with Internet.
But your routers have different setings. Are they the same brand. If yes, configure them exacly the same.

Hi Manu,
Different brands : (1) 2Wire 2701 HGG (802.11g router and 4-port 1-/100 ethernet switch) and (2) a D Link WBR 2310.
I'll check the configurations, but it's strange that both worked fine before the upgrade.
Thanks
Jan
Hi Jan,
You appear to be ethernet connected in house 1, what is the connection in house 2. Does seem odd though, that it worked prior to the update.
Gerry
Hi Gerry,
In house 2, it's simply the D Link router with an ethernet cable to the UnitiServe. The wireless network is recognized by the iPod Touch.
Jan
Hi Jan,
Bit of a puzzle I guess you could try switching the Uitiserves to establish where the problem is.
Gerry
I have one UnitiServe, not two... my original post wasn't clear then. Yeah, two UnitiServes would be showing off !
The UnitiServe is carried (carefully!) back and forth between two houses (it's my Naim iPod ).
Thanks
Jan
In that case I guess it would appear to be an issue with the networking/Unitiserve in house 2. You could try using the switch in house 2 to see whether this solves the problem.
I have found a post from January 2010, where the OP also reported drop out issues with a D link router.
Gerry
Will try that. I had thought of changing to a switch in house 2 and hardwiring to a portable computer, thus avoiding a wireless network. Or back to a monitor and mouse.
Thanks for your help and the search,
Jan
Isn't an IP conflict likely? The app might be confused by having two addresses on the same server, i.e. the app doesn't know you moved the Serve.
-Patrick
Hi Patrick,
That sounds plausible ; I'll check the IP addresses tonight at home. It's still puzzling though that both worked fine before the upgrade ; I haven't changed the IP addresses...
Thanks
Jan
Next you go to house 2, can you take along house 1's router? If you have trouble in house 2 with that, then the problem is envrionmental.

Frank.
All opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of any organisations I work for, except where this is stated explicitly.
Thanks Frank ; what do you mean though by *environmental*?

IP address can change easily, especially if something gets unconnected and then something else is connected. Sometimes the 2nd unit will "steal" the 1st unit's address. Then when you go to connect the 1st again it is assigned a new IP.
I assume you though have set-up static IP address? Can the serve have more than one IP?
