Explain Your Avatar
Posted by: pcstockton on 02 November 2011
I am constantly curious about some people's avatars. What/who is it and what is the meaning?
I'll start.
This is the Par 3 17th at Pacific Dunes at Bandon Dunes on the coast in Oregon. THE #1 public course in the US (been battling with Pebble Beach), and #10 in the world. This world ranking includes all courses public and private (even the ultra exclusive places none of us will ever even see.
The 17th at Pacific is a "Redan" modeled after CB MacDonald's famous hole at National Golf Links. You better be able to hit a high, soft fade. The bunkers on the left and front are DEEEEEP. Long and right is GONE.
Although this is not one of the ocean side holes, it is one of my favorites. It is a great penultimate hole.

This is a digital rendition I found in the Net of Robbie the Robot, main character in the 1956 film >The Fordbidden Planet<, that I saw when I was 9 years old in 1962.
My oldest and closest friend, who died in 2008, was also a fan of the film and the character and was always after toy models of the robot, apparently expensive on the 2nd hand market.
My parents gave one to me for a long lost Christmas, its abdomen had a light inside and it walked on my bedroom floor.

Mine is the number a NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt used for most of his racing career.
This is a still from avatar that I used on the Tech Guys web site, in full it morphs into the number 88 which is what his son Dale Jnr uses now.
I've seen a couple of moving avatars maybe I'll see if I can set the full one up.

Mine is a photo looking into my shop,Tune, in Belltown, just north of the Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle. I like the picture because of the warm wood colors inside and the cool blue reflections of the sky in the window. Plus it shows a nice clean interior which is a bit more filled with stuff five years later.
That original window was smashed with a rock a couple of years ago but was replaced with same. Good times.

Albrecht Durers's 'Young Hare'
A drawing and an animal of which I'm very fond. A print of this sits above my desk at home, and we can also sometimes watch them from the windows of the house.
Anything was better than a picture of me.

Mine is a reminder never to get too neurotic about what should be a pleasureable 'hobby'.

stephenjohn,
this drawing is a bit eerie but fantastic! How old is your son now, and how is he drawing?
