Explain Your Avatar
Posted by: pcstockton on 02 November 2011
I am constantly curious about some people's avatars. What/who is it and what is the meaning?
I'll start.
This is the Par 3 17th at Pacific Dunes at Bandon Dunes on the coast in Oregon. THE #1 public course in the US (been battling with Pebble Beach), and #10 in the world. This world ranking includes all courses public and private (even the ultra exclusive places none of us will ever even see.
The 17th at Pacific is a "Redan" modeled after CB MacDonald's famous hole at National Golf Links. You better be able to hit a high, soft fade. The bunkers on the left and front are DEEEEEP. Long and right is GONE.
Although this is not one of the ocean side holes, it is one of my favorites. It is a great penultimate hole.

My ex-wife ......
Only joking. I always wanted a skeleton ever since I was a kid, watching Steptoe & Son. One Christmas, my wife surprised me by buying me one. Also fitting because she always says I spend too much time on the computer.

Mine is a photo I took of the Clywedog Resevoir between Llanidloes and Machynlleth, Powys. It's a regular stop for me when out on the bike.

Mine is a bi-ventricular ICD. I have one implanted in my left shoulder. It has kept me alive for the past 7+ years.

My avatar is Captain Hook from the Walt Disney classic, "Peter Pan".
Hook has been my nickname for 40 years, since I was a teenager.

Mom bought Dad a console stereo for his 47th birthday including a Marantz Model 26, Dual 1215, and Altec Lansing speaker components firing at 45 degrees out the back of the Barzilay cabinet. It was 1971. I've been a hi-fi fan ever since.

Finally got round to adding one. It's the logo of the Nottingham Junior Ice Hockey Club. My son plays for them and I seem to spend most of my life trailing round from ice rink to ice rink.

Being Maltese, mine's a malteser. I accept I am neither as sweet nor as honeyed but it's an aim of mine. And yes, on other fora I am known as malteser.

Frank.

This beautiful little bird has always been my avatar in Internet. It has a lovely plumage and song. Its happiness is contagious and his song is very similar to Naim gear, sweet and full of PRAT!
It is fun, some get confuse with 007 character, Goldfinger....

Do any of you find that when you want to see the person's profile, you often click on the avatar to no avail, before remembering to click on the much smaller link of the user name?
It bugs me senseless!
Regards,
Frank.

A piccie of me, taken by another forum member (Lontano) while I was wearing a Naim polo shirt, taken at the factory tour & BBQ in 2009.
Couldn't think of anything more appropriate.

I do it constantly.....
As well as hitting "Cancel" rather than "OK" at every turn here. Why are they backwards???
RE: malteser. I saw that in your profile once, and was too lazy to google what a "malteser" is in the first place. So I just did... interesting. We call them "Whoppers". Or the generic "malted milk balls".
Your pic is so small it is very blurry when blown up on the main screen. Of course I can only see a whopper now, but I always thought it was a bronze sculpture or something.
Cheers
