ND5 XS stops playing after 19 secs?

Posted by: Somchie on 03 November 2011

Some, not all, FLACs stops at exactly 19 seconds on my ND5 XS?!?! Restarting the FLAC just stops again at 19 seconds.

I am running latest Majestic uPNP server on my Mac Mini Server and it doesn't matter if I use wifi or ethernet on the ND5.

Any suggestions?

I can also confirm that after initial problems with Playback on WAV files from a MAC, these have now been resolved and fixed by Yazsoft. Many thanks to Johnny at Yazsoft for the fixes.

I can recommend Playback for MAC users. It even display the cover art on the n-Stream App. Very fast also!

To comment on the initial post, as a distributor of Naim products, who everyday receives calls from customers and dealers, I have yet to come across an issue on streaming that was a Naim product problem. Always either a network problem, commonly a NAS problem and UPnP servers always through up problems.

Our answer to all is buy a UnitServe or any other Naim server and you can be assured there will be very little tech support calls! I can support this simply by the number of streaming products and servers we have sold!

Cheers

If you have on old PC lying around why not try Vortexbox.

You can give it go for free, what have you got to lose.

Does everything perfectly except make the tea.

to be fair, it doesn't do everything.  Maybe it does everything you want, no doubt.

There is no:

-10' experience.

- Sexy UI

- Lyrics

- Bios

- Native iOS App

- No WAV support, right?  Important for the Naimees.

just saying.....

Patrick - he has the ND5 XS and problems with it every 19 seconds; we know Mac UPnP is not the greatest (all UPnP's fault not my Mac which is beyond criticism) and so a nice VB could be an answer to the 19 second problem.

Native iOS App for VB now there is a nice project. It does have a web interface agreed not sexy.

Is WAV support so important, as more and more Naimess become FLACers.

Even I;m moving from AIFF to FLAC

Lyrics would be nice - perhaps Naim will build that feature in to the next nStream for us UQers.

I'd give J River a go if it wasn't Windows only, as the only Windows machine I have is for work and it is bolted down and monitored to make sure I don't load any apps on it.

All the best, Guy

I agree that there are no decent UPNP servers for Mac OS.  And Vortebox may be the best one out there.  My only reason for posting that little (non-exhaustive) list is to show what some other media player/servers are capable of.

Afterall, some here dont share that same extreme prejudice towards OS's.

If someone showed me that I could easily do everything I wanted (and more) with a Mac as my HTPC/Server I wouldn't hesitate in the least, regardless of pricing, corporate culture, or OS.

Besides what Vortebox cant do, there are other issues.  Like sacrificing a computer, that you may want to use for other things, to function only as a server.

The way I see it though (for me personally) is that SQ aside, the 10' experience and iOS control point is of utmost importance.

Lastly, I require the ability to stream from my server off of my LAN.  Can that be done with Vortebox?  Probably can, but  I am not sure.  Also, in doing so you will want to be able to set-up two servers so you can set one to transcode to MP3 for remote streaming.

Thanks!

Patrick

I assume you forgot a winky-smiley there....

I am sincerely hoping you don't really maintain that it is the UPNP's protocol fault that Apple doesn't support it.

Is it FLAC's fault that Apple wont support them?

I get out every night my friend.  Not Married + No Kids = CONSTANT FUN

Last night I had 6 good friends over for dinner, drinking and music.  With the iPad on the coffee table everyone could scroll around looking for things to play, then add to the playlist or hijack everything and play right away.  Totally fun.

I entertain a lot and music is the most important non-living thing in my world.  Having lyrics and the gorgeous Theater View with artist slideshow is money.  Everyone loves it and I have set-up many friends with a similar system.

Only those friend's of mine with exclusively ALL-MAC homes are left out in cold.  A few picked up a cheap laptop though just so they could "do what I do".

Cheers!

My issue is with the acronym. It's certainly not "U" and nor is it "PnP".

Broken promises.....

No need for Vortexbox to transcode to MP3 - just ask it to build an mp3 mirror of your library. As for streaming beyond your network - well that would be up to your router. Tog

An MP3 Mirror?  What is that?  Does that mean my entire library is then doubled and I need to figure our which version of an album to play?

Why are you making excuses for Vortebox's shortcomings?  It makes it REALLY hard to lend credence you your positive comments when you wont simply say, "Unfortunately Vortebox wont do xyz."  You sound like a company man manufacturer's rep, and Ive known plenty.  I can only really listen to those who are willing to face their iniquities.

If Vortebox doesn't have the feature others have they are either a) banal, b) meaningless, c) Patrick doesn't get out enough (which my hangover disproves), or d) circumventable with a half-assed solution.

Then when anyone discusses a server that DOES in fact do EVERYTHING you could possibly want, you play the "windows is evil" card.

Lastly, i KNOW you would support all of the things I have been bringing up if the Vortegods coud pull it off.  You are just being obtuse and pedantic.

Cheers!!!  have a nice Friday!

What device description URL and port would I use to connect remotely via PP?  I will try it this evening.

Hi Jack

I was using the version 1.8.8 and it worked fine. I am now using a Beta version 1.8.9 and I have no problems. It´s fast and the n-Stream treats it like it was coming from my Naim Server.

I was able to pass on to him confidential technical information from Naim which may well have sorted the problem.

Contact Johnny at Yazsoft with your issues and I am sure he will respond positively, he did for me.

Can you tell me more details of the server you are using, I am keen to see it?

You can e-mail on the mail address on the Naim website for Spain.

Ah Patrick .... Clearly a "zero sum gain" kind of guy ...

If you are having trouble choosing which version to play one will be a flac and one would be an mp3 and they would be in a different folders.

On a Mac they are quite easy to spot.
