HMV Peterborough is a long standing joke PB. Unless you want a DVD boxset, blue ray disc, cheap headphones or a console game.

My local HMV WAS pretty good.

It WAS making money, but was closed anyway.

We had a great little shop mid 80s early 90s

Second hand vinyl CD and Tapes with a bit of new thrown in the mix even had a mass record cleaner.

Re Pete Records.

Sadly though Pete had chest pains went into hospital.

A few years later another started trading,That lasted long enough for me to buy the final cut on cd £15.00.

It shut up shop then all we had was Woolworths.

Everyone knows what happend to that small company of shops.

Now we have more Charity shops/Estate Agents/Hair dressers and places to eat and drink more types of coffee than one will ever need in there life.

The best curry house has never re-opened after shutting down for a new roll or two of flock wall paper.

Far, far too many reissues, bought by people who prefer the sound of their system over those who listen to music!

Posted on: 07 November 2011 by Thorsten_L

Hi graham,

I have the original UK 1st pressing and the new one is AT LEAST as good...I dare say even "better"...

I am not one of those you accuse.

And by the way, not really a nice post, since it is your speculation.

Not all re-issues are bad and not all people behave according to your assumption.

Bought by people who only have a noisy second hand copy.....

Received mine yesterday, looks great, sounds junk. What a shame.

Posted on: 08 November 2011 by Thorsten_L

Junk???

Wow...really....

How so?

Dull, flat, lifeless.

The Master Sound pressing is in a different league.

Posted on: 08 November 2011 by Thorsten_L

Like said, I have the UK 1st pressing and both are very very good...

Dull, flat, lifeless...I would have said: Open, deep (big soundstage) and very much alive...

Interesting...everyone hears different...

I am rather a born-again vinyl enthusiast who still has his original pressings than being a total arrogant vinyl-snob.

A1-B3 Matrix

Just received my copy from Amazon. The sound quality is acceptable, not as bright and tight as the original. The only gripe I have is with the packaging. What a stupid cardboard inner sleeve which is too small to accommodate the 180g disc. Extracting the LP was very difficult. Not to be used again.

'Bright and tight' meaning good or bad? Mine arrives today

Posted on: 08 November 2011 by Thorsten_L

Oh my...

I just cleaned my new 2011 and the A1-B3- LP and had a shoot out...

Clear winner: The UK pressing...miles and miles ahead.....

But the new one is pretty good too...but NO CHANCE in EVERYTHING against the A1-B3-pressing...

I agree with the Count, the CBS Mastersound pressing is a stunner (the best I have) but I haven't had a chance to compare it yet with this new one.

Hi Elbow,

The new copy isn't as clear and tight rhythmically as the original, but it's marginal and only noticeable in direct comparison. I think they've done a slightly better job with this than DSOTM which is significantly less good compared to the original 1st pressing. As Richard Dane commented on previous thread, this may be due to deterioration of the original master tape over time.

All the best,

Steve

P.S. Be careful extracting the LP from the tight cardboard sleeve.

Hi Steve,

I got my copy from Music Direct in the US, arrived this afternoon. Sounds absolutely fantastic and is dead quiet too. Mine came with the vinyl in a clear poly sleeve with the card sleeve inside empty, so not a mark on the vinyl.

I haven't ever owned WYWH on vinyl so have nothing to compare it to, but it sounds great and as you say, a better job that DSOTM.

Thanks

Tony

I am not going to bother getting into a debate about this album or doing A's and B's testing of this new vinyl  release.

All i will say is i like it from the off.

This and DSOTM used to be two of my bread and butter demo albums when they came out in the 70s.

Played every day over and over at work, day in day out on loads of diff TTs and many more systems and through even many many more diff makes of speakers..

And of course at home.

I like whats been done to this a lot.

You just have to listen to the Sax to get it IMO.

Stu

Doug Sax, or Saxophone??

Imagine that debate over on the Hoffman forum - they would go on about that for weeks!!

Cheers

Stu.

Mine arrived today,  got myself a bit stuck up with the black bag but that aside the disk sounds great. Certainly not flat and lifeless.  However my old copy sounds great too.  Sounds a little fuller and a tad more on leading edges.  My old copy must be a bit worn I think.  Concludes the interesting experiment with: no need to buy any more re-issues but go and find some new music
