Posted by: Thorsten_L on 05 November 2011

Hi!

My copy is on the way...anyone checked it out???

Posted on: 10 November 2011 by Gale 401

Fozz,

I was not going to get into this but its the bad original sounding edges that have been turned into better sounding bends/curves.

If you get my drift.

Stu.

Hmmm...I just listened to a Mint- A4/B9  SHVL 814 UK 1st pressing and this sounds utterly fantastic...

So, I prefer clearly my two UK pressings over the 2011-issue...tomorrow I get a German 1C-064...-pressing...lets see...

T,

Have fun man.

But??

Your money would be better spent on your cartridge and TT though imo.

And stay away from discorgs

Pre-empting your Wall album in Feb 2012  Pre-order

Just go for a Jap Direct cut vinyl pressing(If you can find a 1988 original ?) now so you can get used to what it sounds like..

Boomshanker.

Stu,

my TT is just very fine.

And my Ortofon Valencia cartridge too...sorry.

I love what I hear and why would I listen to someone who never heard my system in my room?

Transrotor TTs are excellent products and yes, I know the dps from Mr Bauer in Munich, BUT I know about the price too...

I am happy hunting awesome vinyl, the sound is great enough.

Jap cut vinyl?

Not all Japanese pressing are good...

I had some of the Zeps as Jap cuts and they SUCKED.

Now I have the classic 200gr and they kick the Japanese pressings to the dark side of the friggin moon.

Hi Elbow,

The new copy isn't as clear and tight rhythmically as the original, but it's marginal and only noticeable in direct comparison. I think they've done a slightly better job with this than DSOTM which is significantly less good compared to the original 1st pressing. As Richard Dane commented on previous thread, this may be due to deterioration of the original master tape over time.

All the best,

Steve

P.S. Be careful extracting the LP from the tight cardboard sleeve.

After prizing my copy out of the cardboard sleeve, and giving the vinyl a clean on the RCM, I placed the record in a new poly/paper sleeve. The original inner cardboard sleeve is now only used as a wallet for the poster and post card which now slides in to the outer sleeve separately from the record in poly/paper. This way it all fits rather well.

Played my copy 3 times now, i don’t appreciate the crackle on the quiet intro, in fact there is persistent minor surface noise which imo shows a lack of product quality.

However, the music is stunning… forgot how good this album is... these guys really knew how to rock, and when the going gets louder the surface noise isn’t there to distract so it’s far more enjoyable.

I can only just about bring myself to like this vinyl, it has some redeeming features [like it doesn’t stick in ‘Have A Cigar’ like my original copy did] and this new re-issue is the only WYWH i have on vinyl so it’s a keeper but I’m well thinking this re-issue effort is a product designed to make easy money from the current vinyl buying trend who tend to be older gits with money to spend... suckers like us. This is certainly not audiophile quality vinyl.

Imo would have been better to not bother with the poster/post card rubbish and simply make a better quality record - it should be better for what they’re charging for it.

Debs,

I like it.

It is what it is.

Dig out your Saint Germaine Blunote  double pressing of Tourist and give it a play for the first time down stairs.

Stu.

Tourist 2LP is sublime..   but back on topic, and on the crackle front, I still don't get how this new press appears to have the noise on intro in exactly the same place  as my original   strange forces at play or maybe they recorded the vinyl having lost the masters

My version is super quiet and the vinyl is unmarked. In fact it's one of the quietest new pressings I've (not) heard in years. Also mine came with the vinyl in a clear poly sleeve and the cardboard sleeve empty. Maybe I got a US pressing (I'm in NY), but it really is nice sounding, not a single pop or crackle on either side. I got mine from Music Direct in US.

Sounds your copy may have been made in the wonderful RTI factory, USA...

Like the Jimi Hendrix Winterland box-set (Sony/Legacy) the vinyl is enclosed in anti-static poly-sleeves, the records look very well made and sound fantastic, and don't even need a clean first!

My WYWH copy came shoehorned into a cheapo cardboard sleeve marked - Made in EU.

I giving the vinyl a clean on the Okki Nokki, but on playback the surface noise comes and goes with clicks and pops and in some places crackles away like a log fire, it's not loud but can't help notice it.

Debs, my copy is super quiet and very impressive. I am not in the mind to compare it with this /that version but it is very good. What you are describing sounds a long way from my copy. Have you considered sending it back for a different copy - maybe you just got unlucky.......
