Office headphone system

Hi Guys

I've got a Macbook Pro (latest) and looking to get the best poss(ish) sound out of this via headphones in the office (I have several spare pairs of headphones - think I might use my Grado RS1s which have been gathering dust)

Any thoughts on what i should be looking at - i'm totally clueless re. computer audio / what my Mac might be able to output and into what! ... but might there be some nifty external DAC / headphone amp that might do the business and if so how might one hook it up?

Also would lossless rips via iTunes be OK (which would please me!)

Nothing too complicated or geeky please

Thanks

Andy

I have some old Sennheiser headphones (HD 250 is think) which give quite good sound with my macbook pro.

I have got an external dac and amp, but I don't use it since the macbook seems to output good enough sound.

I would try some headphones and see. If the sound levels are too low then you will need to get an amp.

I use a "TotalBitHead" USB DAC/amp.  I was comparing HD650's and HD595's on my MBPro and found both very nice, but kind of the same, until I inserted the DAC/amp in between.  The more-expensive HD650's totally justified their extra cost when played via this reasonably-priced amp. Plug and play, too.

NuForce Icon HDP or Audiolab MDAC, connected by either USB or optical out from your Macbook.

Either will both sound superb and be easy to set up.  The HDP is more compact, the MDAC sounds a little better and is a lot more tweakable.
