Just had a look see.

They have added some more good vinyl albums.

After seeing the packaging they used to deliver something I ordered from them (flimsy enough for the sleeve to be damaged but not, fortunately, the vinyl) I will not buy anything from them

Posted on: 18 November 2011 by Gale 401

Each to there own.

But if i can save £5/10/20/30 or more on a album?

I will.

If it gives me more money to spend on music.

I have ordered shed loads from them over the years and only ever had one or two that had dinks on cover corners.

Amazon use boxes that you could fit 50 vinyl albums in, just for one and stuff 2 miles of brown paper on top so it slides about all over the place on the bottom of the box.

I have had to send more of those back over the years.

So its swings.

I use Rockbox or All Your Music when I can - I have ordered some records from HMV and still waiting - AYM seems to deliver more quickly than HMV which is surprising as AYM is in Calfornia. Both AYM and RB take care with the packaging - great service.

Agree HMV are cheap for some records.

So will still use them if they ever deliver the album I have on odered from them.

Stu,

WYWH from Amazon came in a new style package like an over grown CD/DVD box with a dead area at each end to take end hits.

I won't use HMV as their returns process is lousy and with their poor packaging there is a good chance I will have to return. On line it is Amazon, Acoustic Sounds or Burning Shed. I won't accept damaged covers.

However, I give most of my business to local retailers if I can.

Yes please!

PS thanks for King Creosote.

The Hendrix in The West is worth getting £10 vs £20-odd elsewhere. Also the vinyl of Astral Weeks is well worth getting. Its better than my US first pressing, and that is waaaaaaaay better than UK issues. On a different note Rhino has 1999 on vinyl for £11 (ex delivery) - that's a superb reissue if you like Prince.

Well, my King Creosote arrived today and for £7.99 that's gotta be a bargain.

What's known in record buying circles as a "Chicken-Dinner-Winner"

Thanks again Stu.

Cheers

Returning vinyl to HMV is actually very easy...

hmv Customer Returns
Freepost 241
Guernsey
GY1 5SS

It's the same return address for CD's and DVD's, i've used it for my vinyl returns past three times for a quick refund no problem.

No need to pay postage return, enclose a note with customer reference saying what is wrong and request a refund, write the freepost address on the same packaging it came in and take it to any post office, simples.

The mass of bargain priced vinyl purchases from HMV easily out-weigh the occasional need for return. and in the past few years i've also needed to return some duff vinyl to Amazon and jpc.

The main problem IME is far more with issues of vinyl quality from the manufacturer so it doesn't matter how good the packaging is if the pressings are poor.

A+ for Burning Shed though...  fab pressings and the best packaging too, they really know how to please : )

Martin,

Thank you for the 'Hendrix in the West' heads up, i've been pondering that album for past few days and you've given me the little nudge i needed to order it!

and...

Meanwhile on HMV...

West Coast Seatle Boy - 8 x LP box-set (Sony/Legacy)

a big box of great fun value at £57.99 + Free UK delivery!

Winterland - 8 x LP box-set of live Hendrix (Sony/Legacy)

Buy it while you can for £57.99 + free UK delivery

My boxful is very well manufactured, clean, static-free vinyl that plays strait out of the box wonderful -

plus the music just happens to be fantastic too.

You can never have too many Hendrix albums in your collection!

Thanks for the "heads up" Stu.

I had a look on HMV's site to see what was going on and ordered a copy of Ramases' "Space Hymns".

Never heard it, but thought I would take a punt like I used to in the old days.

I also saw that a couple of  Swell Maps' albums are to be released on vinyl, albeit at £20+ each, and there is a 2011 live version of Moving Pictures for Rush fans.

I would not let objectors put you off letting us know about potentially interesting (re)releases. We all have the option of shopping elsewhere if we don't like a particular vendor, but if we don't know something is available....
