Police have confirmed Gary Speed 42 was found hanged at his home. No suspicious circumstances.

Terrible terrible sad news to wake up to this afternoon. I'm still in a state of shock. He did "An Evening With Gary Speed" at a good friend of mine's auntie's bar in Holyhead on Wednesday and was said to be on good form. We all wonder what drives someone to such a desperate act - so why??

I've been in a reflective mood all day since hearing this dreadful news. A great player for Newcastle, and the other teams he graced with his presence. I do not know or understand what drove him to take his own life, but it makes me truly sad. Thanks for the memories Gary, God bless.

He will be rembered always as a gentleman, and an inspiration to all who met him.
