LED Light bulbs - better than CFL

Posted by: winkyincanada on 03 December 2011

I was unable to live with the dingy light coming from those compact fluorescent lamps, but find the new LED bulbs quite agreeable (but still not quite as good as incandescent). Not cheap, but we're progressively switching over. Electricity savings and long-life offset the cost a bit.

Anyone else have a view?

Recently this house was completely rewired, and also at work we have a new ice cream store for a quarter of a million litres plus of product. It has LED lighting. Fantastic. The same electrician wired both instalations, and immediately I regretted not having the house rewired with a correct transformer for the whole lighting loom.

That is a better way than buying LED units with built in transformers ...

You live and learn ... It would have been the way to go ...

Yeah, I'd definitely consider a low-voltage circuit if I was rewiring. Not on the cards right now, though.

The thing is the possibility was there in front of my nose, and like an idiot, it never struck me that a domestic situation could be done just like the industrial one. Those florescent things are not nearly as nice as incandescents, and are still less efficient than LEDS, and the LED is capable of all the quality of the old incandescent if done properly.

Sometimes I could kick myself.
