Naim Classical Sampler CD from early 90's, track listing needed

Posted by: Michael Dale on 05 December 2011

Hello!

I have a Naim sampler CD somewhere that came out around the time as the original CDS machine. It has a stunning choral piece with church organ, which is the same as this but without the cheese...

If anyone can tell me the composer (NOT John Williams!) and the recording details, I'd be very grateful. Not sure where my CD has gone. It may have come with a Hifi mag...

Thank you!

Best,

Mickey

Have you tried looking on the Naim Sampler discs from day one?IE  Sampler one/two/three?

Posted on: 05 December 2011 by Michael Dale

I did. It predates those by many years. It was a free CD that came on the front of a mag I think... There's one on ebay but no track listing. The sleeve had a pic of the CDS on it too!

Best,

I have a Hi-Fi Choice sampler/giveaway but it has all sorts,Forcione to Alegri Quartet.

At the risk of stating the obvious... have you tried putting it in the cd/dvd drive of your computer? iTunes, or whatever music software you have installed, just might recognise it.

Failing that, I guess you could always try Shazam or Track ID on your phone, or even Simon Drake at Naim.

As CC says you should get some info by ripping into iTunes or allied app.

If I had the disc, I wouldn't need to ask! I cannot find the disc and had cravings to hear one particular track from it. I'll contact Naim.

Thanks guys.

Michael, is this any help?

Rule1 ALWAYS read ALL of  OP!!!!!!!!

Posted on: 06 December 2011 by Michael Dale

Hey guys!

We're getting somewhere! On the Naim CD, it was in German, and may have been called O Heil'ge Nacht, or possibly Children's Song (in German). It's an awesome piece. Huge choir, huge church organ!

Thanks for the help so far!

I have a few Naim samplers that may have come from HiFi mags; can I ask the duration of the track in question?

Posted on: 06 December 2011 by EJS

Guys, am I missing something or is Michael looking for the traditional carol 'O Holy Night'?

Kind regards,

It is a version of that song, sung in German, which appeared on a Naim Audio sampler CD from the early 90's, which I think was free with a hifi mag. I cannot find my CD copy, and the version of the song in question say the best I ever heard and would love to hear it again.

Hope I have been more clear than previously! I will ask Naim to help too.

Best,

Duration of the track? I assume you have it saved as a file that you ripped from the CD?

Posted on: 06 December 2011 by Michael Dale

Is this a wind up? If I had it ripped and saved I would not need to ask any questions here!

I figured that someone on the forum would have a copy of it and have that info.

I cannot give the information more specifically! I have lost the CD, have no copy or rip of it, and just wondered if anyone could shed light on it.

Cheers,

lol. I don't suppose I read the "Not sure where my CD has gone." part, and didn't open the Home Alone YouTube link at first, or would have posted my (and EJ's!) wiki link sooner.

Mickey, If you've seen one for sale, how about asking the seller? : )

Posted on: 06 December 2011 by BigH47

Me either.

Posted on: 06 December 2011 by Michael Dale

Hey guys! Success. I couldn't ask the seller on eBay cos it turned out the listing ended in bloody August.

BUT.... I went searching the house and found a box of CD gems, things I will enjoy listening to in the Xmas break. Jim O'Rourke, Dischord records box set, Dose One and Boom Bip!

And there it was, the Naim Classical CD that came with CD review magazine inFeb 92! Track 11 is simply titled Julsang, by Adam (arranged by Lindstrom). I wish I could upload it to share the beauty of it.

Thanks for trying to help, and sorry if I seemed snappy! I guess with threads, it's easy to sometimes miss parts of a post. I am as guilty of it!

Silly season is almost here. Enjoy it, and be merry! ;-)

Best wishes,

Hi Mickey,

its a track from an album called Cantate Domino on the Proprius Label. Rega used to distribute it in the UK.  Jazz at the Pawnshop is also on that label. Nobody's perfect I guess...

Hi Mickey

Can’t recommend the album Martin mentions Cantate Domino highly enough should you be looking for more of the same type of music. We have both the original vinyl and also the CD and both are superb, if you like that sort of thing.

Track 9 is the one you speak of; you can get an idea of the rest of the album here.

I get hyped about all kinds of stuff. It was prompted by a mate who plays in a math rock band, who sent me a link to a version of it which appears in Home Alone. I was eager to play him a better version, and so the hunt began! Can't help what music moves us, can we!

I was very happy at how much more natural it sounded on the CDS 2 than the old CDS!

Michael

The CD you have now found is Naim cd001 ie the very first release on the Naim label, and the very first appearance of the 'naim' logo, (I should know!), so hold onto it!

Paul Stephenson selected all the tracks and the sound quality and musical choice is outstanding to say the least.
