n-serve app issues

Posted by: GeordieMike on 18 December 2011

I'm having a couple of issues with the n-serve app and was wondering if anyone could help me:

The app isn't recognizing my HDX system during set-up. Is there anything I have to do apart from install the app and then search for the system? When I do a manual search and enter the IP address in the app crashes! Any help appreciated!

Its not the app.

You have a network issue.

Is your hdx on a fixed ip? If you have fixed the ip were you careful to input the correct dns information?

Is you wireless network on the same subset as you ethernet router?

Are you using the wonderous homehub?

Hi Geordie.. Yes Gary above means Subnet (not subset). If you have hard wired the addresses such as 192.168.1.X - then you must specify the same network address for each address. This is often defined by setting the 'subnet mask'. Make sure these masks are the same on all devices. This is your network description. If they are different it could mean your devices are on different networks and won't see each other. For home use the mask 255.255.255.0 is quite common. An ip address is only meaningful in conjunction with its subnet mask. This is sometimes overlooked.
If the above is all ok, then the next step is to try a different wireless AP on your network....
