Our XP5 have arrived this afternoon, so I will play during the Xmas weekend.

It would be interesting to know what sort of of effect it has on an NDX/HDX/CDX2 level of products...

nx5/dac/pwer supply installed last week excellent is the word.   not a naim system guy obsessed with upgrading but this trio is stunningly good  allan

I'm waiting for a nice used XPS-2 to appear on Audiogon or at my local dealer.  The local dealer does not sell a LOT of Naim, so it may be a long wait.

I have just bought an XP5 XS to power my CDX2. This was after spending weeks looking for a 2nd-hand XPS2 (rare as hen's teeth). The result is very good, more dynamics, instruments better placed and a realistic sound-stage. Take the power supply off and the sound-stage collapses. Currently using a CDX2 + XPS5 XS, NAC 202 + HICAP & NAPSC, SNAXO 242 + Flatcap 2, 2 x NAP150's, Naim Credos, Chord Anthem interconnect and Chord Epic super-twin. XP5 is excellent value for money.

Be interesting to get a comparison between the ND5+XP5 and a bare NDX, since they cost about the same.

That's a lot of boxes.

That issue is discussed a bit here:

Well, not quite. That thread seems to include people who've bought the ND5 saying the NDX isn't much better, and NDX owners saying it is. Anyway, half of them are using the DAC which isn't what I was getting at.

One of the major advantages of the XP5XS may be if it doesn't hum like the XPS2!

nds owners using the ndac must be spitting blood having spent £1000 for the same digital output and the cost of the 192k upgrade too... ive tried the nds5 with the 5 psu and it really it was marginal. but since i have the ndac has a hub the combo of the nds5 /dac//5psu is strickingly good with all dig inputs

just want a naim that does credit to the system

What's an nds5?

Posted on: 16 January 2012 by rich46

Sorry Rich, but I'm not sure I got your point.

To my experience, you need to upgrade the ND5XS with the XP5XS to bring it to the NDX level, even if you are only using its digital output.

Get J River and its JRemote app.  It couldn't get better.

Can someone describe the difference between the NDX vs ND5 XS wit XP5 XS in terms of sound quality?

The NDX is 'better'. The ND5XS is more fun.

If the ND5 XS is more fun, what do you mean with "better"?

Sounds like "fun" is no characteristic to be "better".

Well, I did put better in quotes. :-)
I should have put them in double quotes.

The Ndx is more detailed, maybe carries the tune better, the nd5xs in a/b testing will come across as flatter. However, if you actually live with both sources, likes i had the opportunity to, your preference would be for the nd5xs.

One awesome system was the nd5xs + nait 5i-2. No HiFi BS, just music.

I'll let someone else explain what HiFi BS means ...
