AV2.... Adjusting Sync

Posted by: Chris Bell on 23 December 2011

Can anyone explain how to adjust audio sync on the AV2?  When watching cable tv, the audio is a bit out of sync.  I've referred to the manual, but can't figure out how to adjust?

Advice welcome.

On the remote : Menu + input

SYN is the very last item

Chris, remember that you can delay the audio through the AV2 but you can't go the other way, mainly because the AV2 cannot control the video side. Luckily, in most cases, it's the audio that sometimes needs a slightly longer delay.

Thanks for the response... when I hit Menu and input on the remote, nothing happens.  What am I missing?

That's because the sequence is actually MENU then INPUT UP (sorry, for some reason the Windows character map isn't working, so I can't insert an up arrow symbol)

You'll find it in the manual as part of the AV2 setup sequence - the bit where you set INPUT names etc.

I hit menu, then arrow up on the remote.  Still nothing.... What am I missing?

I don't have an AV2 or the manual so can't help in that respect.

However, as with anything driven by a computer chip, each and every step or word has to be absolutely precise. There is no room for sloppiness or approximation.

Giving and receiving instructions needs to be absolutey precise and unambiguous.

For example Ctrl-alt-Delete probably means the same to all of us since we use it most days, but to a real novice you would probably need to say "Press the key marked 'Ctrl' then whilst continuing to hold that key down also press and hold the key marked 'Alt' then whilst continuing to hold both these keys down also tap and release the key marked 'Delete'. Next release the 'Ctrl' and 'Alt' keys simultaneously"

Best of luck Chris

Cheers

Don

Chris, do you know how up to date the software is on your AV2?

Is your AV2 remote the early one (only works the AV2, or the one which works AV2/DVD5/Preamp?

I described to you the sequence using the early (AV2 only) remote.  This has 2 buttons below each of the MODE and INPUT buttons, labelled I/P up, IP down, Mode up, Mode down.

To enter/exit the appropriate setup on this remote press the MENU button, then press the I/P up button.  Use the 2, 4, 6 and 8 keys (the ones with little arrows as part of the legend) to navigate the setup routine.

If you are using the multipurpose Naim remote, then the sequence is :

Press the white AV button, then press MENU, then press INPUT.  Navigate using the 2, 4, 6, 8 keys (not the D-pad type arrow key buttons).  Exit setup by pressing MENU then INPUT.

Hope that solves your problem.

Appreciate everyone's help on this... typically I am good with programming, but the AV2 has always been a bit of a mystery for me.  I will try your instructions again and see if I can make it work.

Richard, how do I find the software version?  I assume if its old, I would have to ship it back to the factory for a flash?

I assume you mean firmware version?

Thanks Dungassin.  Chris, I'll have to dig out the old manual and compare with the current one to be sure, but I'm pretty sure synch adjust came with later firmware.  Either way, check what firmware you're running and if it's very early then best have your Naim dealer update it.  Synch adjust has limitations on just an AV2, better adjustment coming when combined and linked with the DVD5
