been waiting for this since I first heard the bootleg at Eric's in Liverpool played by Roger Eagle (one time promoter of the Captain in the UK).  I believe Roger was involved with the subsequent bootlegs before his untimely death, but this official release is great news for all Beefheart fans.

can hardly wait!

Really looking forward to hearing this after so many years.

well, it came out on vinyl and someone gave me a copy for Christmas.

obviously a bootleg, I believe there are at least two doing the rounds, and not from the Zappa estate but from recent Zappa CD issue.  looked up the address on the record sleeve and that address is a well known burger joint in London.

better than my Dustsucker CD, but that is not difficult.

hissy and slightly muted, but great music.

I'd have thought Zappa estate unlikely to release official analogue sourced vinyl with these bootlegs hanging about.

anyone have any other info?

Only that the Magic Band are touring the UK again in the spring. Well worth seeing as Drumbo (John French) makes an excellent front man! See here for dates:

Yeah, seen some clips on You tube of the last tour, John French is very good but having seen The Captain a couple of times I'm not sure I want to see the band without him.

I thought there already existed a Beefheart record of this name. In fact I am pretty sure I have a copy on vinyl. (Not at home at present, so can't check on this).

john 101 -

I'm referring to the original mid 70's Bat Chain Puller that got caught up in legal wrangling and was only released officially last year on CD by the Zappa estate (bootlegs have been around for ages - the most popular being Dust Sucker).  Beefheart re-recorded most of this album with a different band, released by Warner in early 80's as Bat Chain Puller/Shiny Beast.

If you are a Beefheart fan then try and get to listen to the original Bat Chain Puller.  A darker and more sublime album than the 80's record.  First class beefheart IMO.

I saw the Captain many times from his first UK tour to his last and have also seen the Magic Band several times in the last few years - Ok - it's not the Captain but it's still damn good! Also the Muffin Men are an excellent live  Zappa music band and did a killer Willie the Pimp when they toured with the late lamented Jimmy Carl Black. I chatted to him after her a gig and he was proud of the music they were making.

As  a Deadhead I've had to come to terms with the death of the best musician ever but those who were part of it and still want to play do have a lot to offer. Give them a chance at least - what else are you going to do? Trust me - it won't spoil the recordings or your memories of the originals and you just may have a great night.

Indeed they are(were?). JCBlack was very accessible and happy to talk Beefheart/Zappa and accept a pint of lager on a couple of occasions
Their Bakers Dozen Cd is quite brilliant.
