Parking Lights

Posted by: Dungassin on 27 December 2011

Why do so many idiots drive around with their parking lights on when visibility is a little poor?  Personally I use my main headlights for this purpose - after all the point is TO BE SEEN, and the parking lights don't really help.

I'm a cyclist too, and my liftshare is a keen motorcyclist. I've only had on person pull out of a side road in front of me. Twice! On consecutive Sunday mornings. Bear in mind I'm 6ft 4" and was wearing a hi viz jacket. The second time I braked hard, and kicked his rear door. I didn't see him the following Sunday morning. Time will tell but I suspect this DRL rule will reduce road deaths and injuries. Tony

I believe the DRL [Dreadful Roadkill Liability?] ...will only increase deaths and injuries to cyclists and motorcyclists.

Don’t know how it will affect car and van drivers...

all depends on the nut that holds the steering wheel.

I think that you're right. I hope not. I use a front flasher on my commuter in anything but bright daylight, and am just paranoid about cars pulling out on me or turning across me because they don't see me coming. I worry much less about being hit from behind.

See this....

As a pedestrian and cyclist I like the idea of cars having features for my safety.

Strange how that works huh?  I'm glad I don't live near some on this forum and to have to either drive near them of cycle near them!  See and be seen everyone!

Your safety?  Nobody's going to see you on your push-bike with three wimpish LEDs amongst a sea of mighty Aldi A5s with more rope-light than a Saturday Night Fever reunion.

Although I like the idea of other road users being able to see me I think that it is equally important for me to be able to see other road users.

Fortunately the evil car industry and the people that make laws agree with me.
