Superuniti can't find Voretxbox files
Posted by: jobseeker on 05 January 2012
Just plugged in my new Vortexbox and ripped some CD's. I've tried to get the Superuniti to play them. It finds the Vortexbox, but when I go into the album or artist files, it shows them as empty. Actually, I'm so new to this that I don't even know how to find them within the Vortexbox from it's own controller interface. I have managed to see that the DLNA server is running, so I don't understand why they can't be found. Any experienced Vortexbox users out there ?
Have you given it time, any device creating a UPNP share has to index the files., it should only take a short while.
One very experienced user is TOG. Another is Fawkes (I seem to remember). I suppose that you need a "server programme" in order for the Superunity to "see" the files? You will need that programme to list them.
You should be able to browse to the files using another network computer. I was able to find my files and copy them to my NAS when I used a "homemade" Vortexbox. I am sure, too, that I would have been able to rip the files directly to my NAS if I had wanted to.
Good luck!
Best wishes,
Peter
Well guys, I've been working in the dark as a complete novice. However, I just saw under the DNLA settings that the music storage was /storage/music/mp3. I edited mp3 to flac and 'Hey Presto'. The Vortexbox was not set to mirror to mp3 in its basic settings (I don't need that anyway) yet it was defaulted to serve from the mp3 folder in the DLNA server. I'm very proud of myself for finding that.
Now then, how on earth do I find and alter the two albums it logged as 'unknown' (even though they were from the same Sinatra Capitol Years box-set as the other lot it did recognise) ?
Thanks for your responses
I would suggest that you use a tagging programme to correct that. There are a number of good ones available for use on a PC.
In the past I used Media Monkey which can be had for free. Now I'm ripping, tagging and playing back using JRiver Media Center. Mostly it gets everything right, but sometimes JRiver will not have found the (correct) cover. Then I have to find it myself by Googling it using the internal browser of the programme.
Good luck.
Best wishes,
Peter
Bliss - it is usually on the Vortexbox. I'm not allowed to post a link here, but if you google vortexbox forum and bliss then you should see details about it. You may already be using this though and it was this that failed to recognise your unknown LPs,
So you may also want to investigate the MusicBrainz Picard which you can run from Mac OSX, Linux or Windows and edit every tag on your VB. It'll do its best to fill it in for you.
Yes, i did manage to spot the need to change mp3 to FLAC in the DLNA bit.
Now got Bliss via the Vortexbox upgrade button in the GUI. It sorted all but one album art issue. At first, the art didn't appear against the albums in a list on the Ipad via NStream, yet did appear once album selected. Then I remembered that DLNA button again and some reference to image size. I increased that from the 163 value it ws at, to 500, which sorted out that issue. I played safe and deleted the 'unknown' files for now. I can try again with those.
I've had a look at mp3tag, but it looks very complicated. I'll check out MusicBrainz Picard next.
Thanks guys.
