Best site for buying & selling?

Posted by: rjstaines on 11 January 2012

I fully support the 'no advertising' policy of this forum, but does anyone have an opinion and/or practical experience about what's the best site to use to buy and sell Naim kit as opposed to any other brand?  (with all due respect to our trade members whose livelihood is eroded by private sales.)

The best site to use is an authorized dealer's.

I've brought and sold on eBay over many years and have had no problems. I recently sold a qute to a happy buyer.

I'd always go through a dealer. Of course, you can be lucky on eBay - you can run across the motorway and not be hit by a car, but I wouldn't do it. To me eBay is about as secure as an Android phone; hence I avoid it.

I buy from Dealers and ebay but always sell on ebay for the best return, over 30 Naim transitions on ebay over 8 years and not been run over yet!! Many dealers sell on ebay a good halfway house.

1) Suggesting ebay is horrible advice for buying Naim gear

2) Ive smoked a pack a day for 20 years and had no problems.  Yet I wouldn't suggest others follow suit.

3) OBVIOUSLY everyone knows you can buy and sell on eBay.  I dont think it was a very prudent or insightful suggestion.

Got it skn77s7a?

Where are you located Mr Staines ?

Hey rjstaines!

I suppose you are in UK, aren't you? Anyway: the best site I've been dealing on was audiomarkt.de, in Germany. It's well protected, and perfectly administrated.

How rude I just relayed my good experience when buying and selling.

Might be rude but you cant argue the truth of it.

Did you really think suggesting eBay was helpful?

Lastly, you can buy Naim gear wherever you want.  It is a free world and all that.  But suggesting that someone else buy Naim gear on ebay is simply bad advice.  Sorry, but that is my take on it.... from experience.

Have a great day!

Well I must have been lucky on eBay then!  I have purchased a NAC202, NAP200, NAPSC, Hicap 2 and an NV-I from private sellers and all have been fine.

The only slight exception was that the N-VI was misbehaving, a firmware update from Naim sorted that out.

I did buy fairly new kit from established sellers with disclosed serial numbers and all accessories and original packaging.  I think I would be less inclined to buy older Olive or CB kit unless I could see and hear it.

I to have had great service from eBay bought my 82 and 250 last year no problem both olive and supplied with original boxes and original bills of sale ( one owner never raced nor rallyed as they say)
You have to do some homework and I would always recommend contact the seller before committing to purchase.
Best of luck Hilz

Have successfully sold on eBay for years but have found my dealer to be pretty competitive with discounts on new gear. Naim sells well on eBay and I know many Linn and Naim dealers use it Tog

Just to clarify, selling on eBay is probably an easy way to unload your unwanted goods.  BUYING Naim gear on eBay is a different matter.

I am happy that everyone has ZERO bad experiences buying on eBay.  It reminds me of a great bumper sticker.  "Eat shit.  A million flies cant be wrong."

I've brought a CDS3 ,a 252 and a Supercap on e-bay all from authorised Naim dealers which sell on e-bay .One of them is a regular contributer to this forum. All have been fantastic purchases. I wouldn't buy from private sellers without seeing first thou.
