UPnP to iTunes on Synology NAS

Posted by: John Burrow on 11 January 2012

Day 2 with my new NDX and what a revelation, powered by the XPS from the CD player I'm experiencing a massive upgrade, the first for some time, I've been playing with a Mac Mini, Young DAC and Synology NAS for the last 6 months but this is the real deal. Thanks to Harry form Audio Genesis here in Sydney for making it happen.

I'm having no problem playing ITunes out of the Mac into the Toslink on the NDX, sounds beautiful but not as good as it could be,it's wired with cat 6 so a UPnP connection is whats needed, the NDX finds music on the NAS, Hi-Res files play just fine, it's apple losless and AIFF in iTunes on the NAS that are the problem, any AAC files play without a problem.

The server I'm using is the Logitec that was already on the Mac, I've tried allegro but this makes no difference.

Artwork is something I'll worry about at a later time, I've done a couple of searches but if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, John

Logitech and Allegro are awful - tried both and ditched them quickly.. Try Playback or Majestic - see here for sorting artwork

Hi John,
You can use the Synology to transcode Apple Lossless files to wav before it is sent to your NDX.  The settings are in the Diskstation software.

Thank you both very much, Playback works beautifully and changing the settings in the NAS have made it work very well, now to knuckle down and get the artwork sorted.
