Powerline

Bought a Powerline at Christmas.

As a relative newcomer to the Naim world, I must admit to being highly sceptical at spending so much for a big kettle lead. I have also read all of the debates both on here and PFM about cables of all sorts.

System is NDX, Supernait, Unitiserve, and Hicap. Loudspeakers Audiovector Si Avantgarde Arrete. Chord interconnects and speaker cable.

Just did some experimentation between Powerline on Snait and then Hicap.
Tracks were from Adele Live ripped on US.

Was there a difference?

Yep. And to both me and the wife the sound was richer and fuller with Powerline on Hicap.

Thought I would post in the interests of the many sceptics out there. Borrow one from your dealer if you can.

Off to brew up it next, surely the cuppa will be better....

Nice to see a new Audiovector owner on the forum. Do you have ss3?

I would try the powerline on the NDX. my experience with ns01 and NDAC is that powerlines works very well on digital sources and amps, so the NDX is worth a try.

interesting. Thanks for the info. Im also sceptical, and haven't really believed my dealer, despite him offering me the chance to try before I buy. Maybe I should take him up on his offer.....

I, too, played with a powerline once, when I first had my Qute. Not yet having the UQ sorted on proper shelving, the powerline seemed insignificant.  After sorting the UQ, and like anything else, it does need sorting, the powerline made a huge difference in clarity, approach, removal of any hash. Even for the UQ, the money spent is so well worth it.  Like leaving symphony hall before the fourth movement...once you hear it you must include it.
Thanks for posting and totally agree.  An excellent add on.

Dear Lilyliu, what exactly do you do when "sorting" your equipent ?

Hi Iver....

well, when I first starting using the UQ, I had it on a small table, very rickety, next to my regular hifi system.  And even when that showed great potential, I knew it needed to be on a proper shelf.  So I placed it on a Target wall frame.  I had replaced the standard Target mdf years ago with a shelf made in the USA by Neaunce.  It is great with tables, cd players, and such.  Well, I got to experimenting, and put the original Target shelf back under the UQ, which was loads better.  I next cut a 1/4" birch ply to fit the frame, and that was sounding even better.   Which made me pose the question somewhere on here about using a Fraim even with the UQ.

So that's what I mean by sorting....giving each piece its best, whether it be shelving, cabling, spike adjustment, whatever.....some people just plop things down on anything and expect maximum results.  So maybe sorting is a silly word, but that's how I feel when I'm setting up new gear.

Also now, say with the UQ for instance, power cables can make a load of difference.  I don't want to stray from the Naim sound, which you easily can with many aftermarket cords.

Take care!
