Logitech Media Server and NDX

Posted by: Asenna04 on 20 January 2012

I have been using the Logitech Media Server as uPnP server for my NDX as well as the server for 3 Sueezebox players I have around the house. I actually installed the beta release and it all worked fine. I could play all music files on both NDX and Squeezebox players and the added bonus was that any playlists I created with iPeng for squeezebox players were also visible to NDX and I could play them fine.

However, recently I cannot play wav files on NDX. I can play the mp3 files fine, its just wav files get "Can't Play" message.

I have done a couple of changes when this problem started:-

Installed latest beta version of LMS

Upgraded my Mac OS X to Lion

I have installed the general release (non beta) version of LMS to troubleshoot but got the same error. When the wav files are converted to AIFF format, they play fine.

Anyonne come across this issue?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

With all the hassle I get from Lion I would be looking there first, it really is a dog of an OS.

Gary, do tell. Mrs SinS Apple MacBook Air went belly up, and I have had to replace with a new one, but the new one uses Lion. I hope I won't regret it. I must admit the Mac PCs are not as trouble free as the iPad which I love.

OSX Lion introduced a number of changes but seems to be maturing well - the next update is due in the next week or so and should fix most of the remaining issues. This has been the pattern with all the versions - few initial bugs then fairly rapid progress. Tog

Tog no the new version wont fix all the issues. Sorry.

On my two year old lappy its just a pain in the arse, constant troubles with it from simple memory leaks through to more major issues such as not understanding the difference between my home and work printers.

The loss of GUI for FTP is a pain and the stupid graphic crap to make it look like an iphone annoy, I would be surprised to find anyone, at all, that finds dash board useful in any kind of way on a 27 inch screen.

The default of restarting where you left off including apps is a pain in the arse, and the layout of mail is dog, thankfully you can switch that off.

Most of the first five minutes of any lion install is taken up making it behave like snow leopard.

I miss the virtualisation layer, there was no need to ditch that other than to keep the market machine rolling. That god awfeul mission control is one of Apples worse GUI disasters of all time, again I wonder if anyone uses this at all.

But all in all the general instability, especially with creative suite, and I accept it could be down to these other apps, but there is no excuse for Aperture which is just a blood bath in lion, and coupled with iCloud makes it almost impossible to use on my laptop.

Its not that old 2.4ghz core 2 with 4 gigs of ram, but it struggles with lion.

Yes it's not all roses with Lion and I still have some issues with the speed of wireless transfers over multiple Airport units (largely solved by rolling back the airport firmware to a previous version) - I never use Mission Control for the reasons you suggest and I have a suspicion that many features are being optimised for the flash memory based MacBooks to come. I don't have any real issues with speed though - remember to repair dependencies from time to time - and actually like mail ( it's a relief from Outlook at work) - try Sparrow. There are lots of FTP clients you could use instead of the default. Still work to do - but light years ahead of KDE, Gnome or Unity and I won't discuss the ergonomic, aesthetic train wreck that is Windows. Tog

Tog, being a Mac and Windows user, I can say that Windows 7 is the best MS interface to date and it's usability is similar to the later OSX interfaces, and really is very well designed and easy to use. Quite refreshing really. I like to keep an open mind on these things.

I like Windows 7, on my imac it runs very well.

A lot of my problems are largely to do with dependency on work stuff such as creative suite, Office, LIve Interior etc, which are all starting to come together under lion but it can be a pain.

ONce good feature is being able to lock down the entire drive and still back up to time machine without logging out.

Understood Simon - being a Windows user at work I can say my heart sinks as my Windows 7 and my XP machines boot. Maybe I was traumatised as a young man with Windows ME but it just doesn't work for me - the BOSE of the OS world if you like. Tog

BOSE of the OS world.... ouch!

Win seven is fine, you just have to surrender yourself to the fact you have no idea what is happening at any given moment.

I just install the anti virus etc and hope for the best
