Which Serve- ssd or 1T?

Who's buying which and why?
Thanks!

Well, I'm auditioning a Unitiserve SSD next week.  The HD version wouldn't hold my CD collection, so it's a bit of a no-brainer.

I bought the HD version about 1 year ago and have been very happy. Rationale being that when my collection eventually grows beyond 1TB, I can stick it all on a NAS, which would be the case for the SSD. In the interim I have learnt a lot about digital streaming jiggery-pokery, and still have much to earn. Honestly couldn't have been bothered with a NAS 1 year ago. In summary, HD version is a great product which is easy to use straight out of the box.

Cheers, Paul

SSD as I already had 350GB of ripped and tag-edited FLACs that were already on the NAS...re-doing all this was never an option......gives us max flex for expansion

This was pretty much my approach, too.  I wanted a hard drive based solution, and wanted something that would work well for me straight out of the box. The 1tb uServe has done this wonderfully for me.  I did not want to have to deal with a NAS when I made my purchase decision.

Wouldn't the ND5 XS sound better and cost less than the SSD Version of the UServe?

Both solutions require a NAS.

If the Unitiserve is to be used as a server over network the choice is less of an issue, from a sound quality point of view. Mine serves an NDX and, in this configuration, it's main advantage in ease and convenience.

I went for the 1tb version because I was a streaming novice, plus I have around 900 CDs so I won't be running out of space in the immediate future. I rejected the Unitiserve as player after listening it, the NDX and the Linn Akurate. Guido is right to suggest that it will not sound as good as ND5 XS.

So then why do they still make it?  I'm confused here.
What are the virtues of the ndx?

Why not drop a line to Naim asking what they would recommend (US or ND5) for your particular set-up.

Hi Guy,
Will do.   I think I know the answer already. In my particular case, I got the ssd/nas, to have an all in one Naim approach to ripping and storing. I'm not interested in downloads. And I'll be doing it wirelessly.  At your suggestion, Guy, I've ordered a v-link to use my MacBook pro when I want to go that route. I thought I might as well give that a go while I was playing around.  There's a close out price on the first gen v-link, but I ordered the mkll which still has toslink.
Thanks!
