Posted by: Seagull4521 on 22 January 2012

I am useless at computers and the jargon that goes with it have a HDX-SSD and want to know how to download 24bit, have copied all my old cd's (taken me best part of every evening two weeks) my only experience of music downloads is through my iPad or iPhone which I stream through my zeppelin in our family room my serious listening kit is in the lounge, is there a step by step tutorial for idiots like me that would enable me to get my head around this technology I have seen that I can download 24bit from B&W Linn and name along with some US sites and felt that this was the way to go but behind useing my iPad interface for library and playback etc. I am now stuck, please can someone help I know this is allot easy for you guys but it just stumps me, please can someone help

I think the lack of response here, probably is because most of us are stumped...well I am anyway!

If you don't have a computer and only use an ipad, I think you are going to struggle here.  You may need a computer to be able to do this?  I don't have an ipad yet, so I don't know if there is a way you can connect it direct to your HDX.

I assume you must have a router to be able to use your ipad.

If you have music stored on your ipad, can you get music to stream this to your HDX via the router?

If you can, then I would think you could do the same with Hi-res music too.  I'm not sure how you would transfer it from your ipad to your NAS (or whatever music storage you are using for the HDX) though.

Firstly see if you can get your HDX to see your ipad and read music from it.  Then go from there.  I would start by going to the home screen on your HDX and select the following:

SYSTEM >> NETWORK SHARES >> MANAGE SHARES.

This should show a list of available devices/shares.  If it shows the ipad, enable it and see if you can stream some music thats stored on it.  If you can, then you could try downloading a 24 bit track and try that aswell.

This should at least enable you to hear 24 bit music through the HDX.

See if that works!

As no one has replied, I will give a quick go...

I believe you first need to set up a new share on your NAS called (for example) HR-Audio. From your computer place your downloads I to this share.

Now on your HDX you should be able to search for music shares and add this to your HDX.

I have a similar query.

I have a NAS upstairs available by wi-fi, but I'm thinking of a dedicated, hard-wired, UnitiServe downstairs in the main system.

Now, I can download Hi-Def to the NAS easily enough, but then I'm limited by wi-fi.

So the question becomes: How do I get my Hi-Def download onto the UnitiServe's local hard drive?

You can not, unless some complex reverse-engineering techniques are used. You'd better hard wire both UServe and NAS, and your UServe will "serve" your files in the "network share" on the NAS without any problems.

Which rather begs the question of why I'd bother with the UnitiServe in the first place!

I agree; that's why I am sure Naim will issue an update soon to make it possible. There are already folders reserved for this in internal drives. This is an indication Naim is preparing for this.

Thanks aysil

I'm thinking a DAC off my current Sonos and waiting a little while longer (and saving pennies) could well be the way to go.
