Error: Unable to open port 2921 - UnitiServe

Posted by: Bill_nyc on 25 January 2012

I frequently get the error "Unable to open port 2921" upon openig the desktop client.  The browser also cannot find the server.  My UnitiServe is connected via Ethernet.  This occurs when my network appears to be up and I can connect to the Internet from my computer.  Rebooting the server resolves the problem but would like to avoid that if possible.  Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

Sorry I cannot help directly, but while you're waiting for a knowledgeable Uniti user to appear, here's some generic network related diagnostic steps for this type of issue:

Do you have uPNP (Universal Plug 'n' Pray) enabled on your router? Probably best to ensure it's enabled.

Also, within the router, most domestic routers will allow specific ports to be manually opened. (Check to see if you can enable port 2921?)

Do you use a "personal firewall"? i.e.. a software firewall, installed like any other program, on your PC?

These are often included with "Internet Security" products, such as those from the likes of Norton, McAfee, etc. If so, this could be blocking the opening of the required port. Check the firewall settings.

Just a few "off the top of my head" suggestions.....

Thanks for the suggestions.  uPNP is enabled and my network security software (Symantec Endpoint Protection) log indicates all requests to and from the IP of the UnitiServe are allowed, so the problem doesn't appear to be there.  Didn't see how to enable a specific port in my router's configuration, but since it happens sporadically it would seem that port is not blocked by the router(?).   Any other suggestions welcome...
