Live F1 2012. Whole season Sky only?

Posted by: Tony Lockhart on 29 January 2012

Is there any way I can receive the whole F1 season without Sky and Virgin?
I'd have thought there'd have been an on-line service for those in my position where the Sky satellite is the other side of some very tall trees (thankfully) and Virgin's cable service still hasn't made its way into the protected hamlet of Commercial End.

Thanks

Tony,

The answer is yes their is away.

It will still cost you a few hundred squid though.

You will need a 80cm dish a box and the right sports card.

Have you got a good Sat shop any where near you?

Thanks. Yes, there are a couple of decent looking satellite tv installers around here. However, if the dish needs to point near to the Astra satellite I'm still a non-starter. Which satellite are you suggesting? I'll see if my iPhones SkyView app can pick it up lol. Tony

Here's the view towards the Astra satellite, with no leaves on the trees. I like trees more than Murdoch. Tony

Tony,

South face dish on the Hotbird sat.

Those trees will be no problem with a 80cm dish at ground level.

Astra will also be ok.

You can flick between both if you use a motor.

You can control both from the box and its remote from your arm chair.

I use a Humax HD box with two card slots.

Also with a 80cm dish when it rains hard you dont loose signal.

You also dont need any planning permission.

Anything over 80 ?you do.

Have a look round some sat and av forums.

PS,

If you are going to the next NPS meet with Tonym and the Guy's?

Have a chat with John/fixedwheel,He knows a bit about this stuff.

Thanks Tony. Erm. I'll pass on that! Stu. We had an independent installer come round nearly three years ago, and he reckoned we 'might' just receive the signal in winter. He used a handheld signal checker, and it was a windless day. The Sky dude couldn't even be bothered to turn up. I might have a word with a local independent about the hotbird satellite. Thanks for the help Stu. Tony

Tony

You will probably be able to connect to sites showing F1 through the myp2p website. I watch football and occasionally cycling though this site, the picture quality is often poor, but I'd expect F1 to be very good.

I wouldn't recommend you use a computer that is used to access your bank or email accounts, the risk of picking up a virus or trojan is quite high. I have an old computer that is used solely to  watch sport on the internet, the odd virus or trojan isn't a problem.

I only have the one desktop and that's a crummy ol PC. Hmmmmm. I can't believe Sky/Ecclestone haven't covered this option! Tony
